Some time ago, the owners of Glamping do Medronheiro decided to build a couple of camping pods so they'd have somewhere nice for their friends to stay – somewhere that people can feel like they’ve got their own private space while still feeling like part of the main property. That plan proved to be quite a success – and now they’ve decided to open up those self-contained pods to paying guests as well. Come along here and you’ll be staying at a family property, with all the benefits that brings in terms of local knowledge and tips for places to go and things to do. And there’s plenty of choice when it comes to those things to do, as this rural location (just under 10 minutes’ drive from the village of Melides) is also about 15 minutes’ drive from the nearest beach on the Costa Vicentina, putting both countryside and coastal days within easy reach. And – if you don't mind a little bit of a longer journey – city days too, as it's about an hour’s drive to Setúbal or around an hour and a quarter to Lisbon. When you’re not out and about you’ll probably find that you can easily while away several hours on site, perhaps taking dips in the indoor swimming pool or wandering out to sun yourselves on the loungers just outside. You’ll have access to a barbecue, a play area and kitchen facilities, and kitchen kit, bed linen and towels are all provided to help keep your packing list nice and short.

  • The park only allows dogs up to 30kg.

Local attractions

Getting out to explore the local area may well involve exploring on foot – there are some lovely landscapes nearby in places like Pego do Salgueiro and historic sights including the Pedra Branca dolmen (both 20 minutes’ drive). Alternatively, a local company in Melides (10 minutes) runs bike tours, and you can sign up to ride along the sand at Horses By The Beach (15 minutes). Lazy beach days are up for grabs too, and with plenty of choice among the likes of Praia de Melides (15 minutes), Praia da Aberta Nova (20 minutes) and Praia do Carvalhal (25 minutes) – plus the nature trails of the Lagoa de Santo André Reserve (20 minutes). If you’ve brought the kids with you, a trip to Badoca Safari Park (20 minutes) or Mama Adama Alpaca Farm (35 minutes) may be a good call; if not, perhaps a tasting at local winery Canal Caveira (20 minutes) will appeal?
