Days out in Sintra and Lisbon, or coastal times on the beach at Azenhas do Mar? Plonk yourselves down within easy reach of them all at Sintra Camping Garden, a small touring site in the gardens of a property in the village of Janas. This is a most strategic spot for outings around the Cascais area – it’s five minutes' drive to the coast, 15 minutes to the fairytale-like buildings of Sintra or around 40 minutes to the vibrant streets of Lisbon. Not brought a car? Flag down a bus for the ride to Sintra (and then on to Lisbon if you so desire) or borrow one of the site’s four bikes for local exploring – they’re free to use (thumbs up for free things…). There’ll be no need for wheels in order to sort eats – a well-equipped kitchen on site has a gas cooker, microwave and fridge. Supplies can be picked up in the village five minutes away on foot, where there’s a couple of supermarkets and a bakery as well as restaurants and coffee shops if you’d rather eat out. Back at base there’s plenty of scope for sunbathing, snoozes and snacks – sun loungers, outdoor sofas and shaded tables are scattered around the place for just those purposes. Should the weather get a bit toasty, slope off for a dip in the swimming pool before hosing off in one of the site’s hot showers.

Liked Grundsätzlich eine schöne Idee Stellplätze im eigenen Garten zur Verfügung zu stellen. Der Vermieter war sehr freundlich.

Disliked Die Vögel im Garten waren eher unangenehm und die Sanitäranlagen könnten leicht verbessert werden, wenn man das Silikon erneuern würde. Es ist nicht nur optisch nicht schön, sondern auch nicht gut für die Gesundheit.

Disliked - Gallinas y perros sueltos por el camping con sus excrementos por todos lados
- 2 Duchas y 3 baños solamente
- Malos olores en general
- Un único punto de luz en todo el camping
- No hay recepción
- No hay sombras
- Parcelas muy muy pequeñas
- No está señalizado ni hay carteles por ningún lado
- Es la casa de un chico que vive ahí y en su jardín deja acampar
- Suciedad por todo el camping, no se limpia hace mucho tiempo ni los suelos
- No hay extintores ni ninguna seguridad

Liked Camping vicino alla città di Sintra e in una cittadina molto tranquilla con nelle vicinanze supermercato.
Il proprietario molto gentile e disponibile.

Disliked Ci sono le galline e i polli che girano liberi e per terra ci sono cacche ovunque quindi stare fuori dal camper è difficile perché ti sporchi ed Inoltre questo porta cattivo odore.

Local attractions

To the coast first? A fine choice. Aim for Azenhas do Mar (five minutes’ drive) to wander around a whitewashed seafront village and splash in seawater pools, or make a break to the beach at Praia das Maças (10 minutes), where the waves lend themselves well to surfing or bodyboarding, and there’s another saltwater pool if you decree the water too choppy for a swim. Stunning Sintra (15 minutes) is an absolute must-visit too – it’s packed with colourful palaces, cobbled streets and cracking views. The Moorish castle, the National Palace and Quinta da Regaleira estate are all worth a bit of your time, as is Pena Palace, a little further out of town (25 minutes from the site). There’s stacks of stuff to see and do in Lisbon (40 minutes): ride the trams, head up to São Jorge Castle for city views, amble through the Alfama district and seek out sweet treats at the best pasteis de nata bakeries. If you don’t fancy a city day, stay closer to home with a meander around Monserrate Palace and Park (10 minutes) or a stroll and a sip at Colares Regional Winery (five minutes).
