  • Modern touring park outside Zator, 25 minutes' drive from Oświęcim
  • Energylandia 10 minutes’ drive; Przeciszów Nature Reserve 15 minutes
  • Buffet restaurant, communal kitchen and a well-stocked shop
Surrounded by the green hills and forests of Lesser Poland and 25 minutes’ drive from Oświęcim, Kemping Zator is a modern site with an array of family-friendly facilities and lots to do and see in its hinterland. Zatorland and Energylandia theme parks are both close by, and there are numerous bike paths for cycling jaunts with the kids. Cross the Skawa River – which runs along the edge of the park – and you’re in the countryside; you might get to spot roe deer grazing and white storks foraging in the meadows as you take family rambles around the area. There’s a buffet restaurant to keep the most ravenous of kids happy with breakfast and supper in July and August, and a well-stocked shop selling snacks, groceries, soft drinks and alcohol. Barbecues are allowed on site, and well-maintained communal facilities include a communal kitchen with a refrigerator and all the basics for rustling up simple camping meals. The shops in Zator (five minutes' drive) should provide any supplies you can't buy on site. The fully serviced campervan pitches have electricity and water hook-ups, and the property is fully fenced to make it nice and safe for even the youngest guests. You also have access to stylish bathrooms with shower cubicles and proper loos.

Local attractions

Kemping Zator is very close to two excellent theme parks. Younger kids will be happy with the gentle carousel rides and dinosaur trail at Zatorland Amusement Park (five minutes’ drive), while Energylandia (10 minutes) is better suited to teens, with its thrill rides, high-speed rollercoasters and drag-racing track. You can sneak some culture into your sightseeing schedule too. Most youngsters will love peering into the traditional wooden churches, farmhouses and cottages in the open-air Museum of Western Lesser Poland (20 minutes). A tour of the UNESCO-listed baroque church complex at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (35 minutes) or a visit to the barracks and railway sidings at Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau (half an hour) are both probably best left for older children. When your holiday is all about getting out into the fresh air, pedal sections of the Małopolska Vistula Cycling Route (10 minutes by bike), or hike trails through ancient forest to the peaceful lake in Przeciszów Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive), and keep an eye out for storks nesting in treetops.
