The Netherlands and Germany in one fell swoop of a camping holiday? Why on earth not? It’s easy to explore both countries (or at least parts of them) from Vakantiepark Bergsehaak. This family-friendly holiday park sits on the outskirts of the Dutch town of Haaksbergen (five minutes’ drive, or a 10-minute bike ride along quiet country lanes – oh, and cycle hire is available at the site, if you don’t have your own wheels in tow), less than 15 kilometres from the German border. Vakantiepark Bergsehaak occupies a lushly green meadow shaded by tall pine trees. Children might really feel like they’ve hit the jackpot here, with lots and lots of room to run around and a summer entertainment programme featuring organised games, treasure hunts and sports. And that’s not all: there are also a miniature golf course and indoor and outdoor play areas; the outdoor playground in particular is home to the mother of all climbing structures, as well as a sandpit for younger guests. Speaking of all-weather facilities, there are also indoor and outdoor pools, the former with two shallow paddling areas, the latter with waterslides. And while the kids squabble over whose turn it is to slide next, the grown-ups can kick back on a sun lounger poolside… All that activity is bound to make anyone feel hungry. The on-site restaurant serves schnitzels, burgers and sandwiches, accompanied by soft drinks and beers; two more restaurants can be found within a 10-minute walk from the site, plus lots more options in Haaksbergen.

Friendly, family site with spacious pitches & great play areas. Staff are helpful, facilities clean, and the restaurant is a hit. Mostly quiet & good value, though some mention toilet issues during peak times, less privacy on open spots, and inconsistent hot water. Area's great for cycling.

Liked Facilities, clean toilets and showers with free hot water. Parks, pool and small soft play were great for the kids.

Disliked Unfortunately the field we were placed in was mainly occupied by residence who clearly stay on the site for long periods at a time if not all year. They are big groups who get drunk, light fireworks and have dogs that bark all the time. For people traveling, I would advise using the rest of your site not the “locals” field it felt like we were placed in the middle of a gypsy site. 2 days was long enough!

Liked Staanplaats was heel ruim ! Vriendelijk onthaal, stonden eerst op de verkeerde plaats maar kregen zelfs hulp geboden om te helpen verhuizen ! Sanitair proper en goed ! Prima rustige camping met super vriendelijke buren ! Voor herhaling vatbaar !

Eekhoorn 2 bedroom lodge (no pets)

Liked Het was gemoedelijk, klein en leuke camping. Wat kneuterig in de positieve zin van het woord. Voor onze zoon (4 jaar) genoeg te doen. Ballenbak, zwembad, speeltuin en animatie. Huisje was prachtig! In een mooie groene omgeving. Je ziet wel dat de camping bezig is met veel onderhoud. Dat zorgde ervoor dat we dagen het geluid van maaimachines moesten aanhoren.

Disliked Zie bovenstaande. De camping zijn ze aan het opknappen. Dagenlang werd er gemaaid. Dus rustig buiten zitten zat er niet in.
Verder weinig kritiek. We wilden zelfs langer blijven. Zo gemoedelijk en fijn.

Liked Sehr netter, kleiner Campingplatz, toll für Familien mit kleinen Kindern.
Wunderschöne Gegend zum Fahrrad fahren.
Die Plätze sind offen und sehr groß.
Die Waschhäuser sind sind sauber.

Disliked Aufgrund der offenen Plätze hat man wenig Privatsphäre.

Liked Schöne große Parzelle. Netter kleiner Platz. Freundliches Personal.

Disliked Leider auf dem Feld keine Wege , man fährt über den Rasen, bei Regen leider nicht so gut.
Die Toiletten sind etwas zu wenig und zu dreckig wenn der Platz ausgebucht ist.

At Hof van Eckberge (15 minutes’ drive), kids can get up close and personal with alpacas, wallabies and prairie dogs. Good news if they’re into amphibians, too, for there’s a reptile house with poison dart frogs (plus gekkos and chameleons). Thrown in a watery playground, and you should have happy, tired kids at the end of the day. In Borculo (20 minutes), minerals, fossils and precious stones fill the rooms of the Kristalmuseum, while across town the Brandweermuseum explores the history and the work of the local fire brigade, with displays including uniforms and vintage vehicles.
