Local attractions
Out into the open air? It’s easy to soak up some of the natural landscapes here, as you need only walk over to the Wilbrinkbos (opposite the site) for hours of walks on one of the ‘klompenpad’ hiking trails. For bike rides, a good place to head to is cycling junction 21 in the centre of Voorthuizen, which leads to several paths taking you out into the Veluwe.
For other fresh-air activities, get up into the trees at Klimbos Garderen (10 minutes drive) or take a stroll around the outdoor artworks at Kröller-Müller Museum (25 minutes). The colourful rides of Julianatoren Apeldoorn (15 minutes) are often popular with families – as are the indoor/outdoor play spaces of Treasure Island Zeumeren (five minutes), especially on a damp day.
Other outings might take you to meet monkeys at Apenheul (20 minutes), see marine mammals at the Dolfinarium (half an hour) or explore the artworks and formal gardens at Paleis Het Loo (25 minutes).
