  • Peaceful alpine site 25 minutes’ drive from Arsiè in Belluno province
  • Forte Leone 25 minutes’ drive and Lago del Corlo half an hour
  • Wooden cabins with mountain views; organic food and produce available
When you’re looking for views over snow-capped Dolomites peaks and peaceful rural accommodation, Cima Lan Agricamping, 25 minutes’ steep switchback drive from lakeside Arsiè in the province of Belluno, might be just the place for you. Run by avid mountain-lovers, the site is designed to give guests a taste of alpine life combined with simple 21st-century creature comforts. Accommodation is in wooden huts that blend into the environment; facilities include natty heated bathrooms crafted from a shipping container panelled in wood; there are showers with reliable hot water, loos, granite basins and a washing-up area. Breakfast, brunch and picnic snacks can be ordered to go; they’re all prepared on site and locally sourced. Seasonal vegetables and berries are grown on the farm, and you can buy home-grown jams, juices and syrups made without the use of chemicals as well. Horses graze around the site, but Cima Lan is also surrounded by wild nature. It makes a fantastic base for long walks in the surrounding forest, where you can (hopefully) spot the roe deer, wolves, hares and foxes that also call this area home.

Ci torneremo sicuramente.

Local attractions

Hiking, cycling and mountain biking routes are available directly from the site; if you’d like to try something even more high octane, head for the craggy peaks and high-altitude meadows of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park (50 minutes’ drive). If you’re keen to get out on the water, Lago del Corlo (half an hour) is your nearest stop for kayaking around the shoreline, wild swimming and tramping the path that circumnavigates the lake. Most kids will love following the sculpture trail at Laghetti della Rimonta (50 minutes), and you can snap a family selfie standing next to the mammoth ‘Aquila Vaia di Marcesina’ eagle sculpture (25 minutes) made of natural materials by artist Marco Martalar World War I tourists can explore the battery, powder stores and barracks at Forte Leone (25 minutes), once the most powerful defence fort in the Dolomites; it also has stunning views over the Veneto region. Further afield, the Museum of the Great War 1915–1918 (an hour and a half) rewards your visit with an armoury of vintage weapons, canons and military trucks at a former railway station.
