  • Quiet site in the centre of Lido di Camaiore in Versilia
  • A 10-minute walk from the beach; Torre del Lago 10 minutes’ drive
  • Mini football and tennis court on site; cycling path nearby
Bang in the middle of lively Lido di Camaiore and barely 10 minutes’ walk from a four-kilometre stretch of golden beach edging the Ligurian Sea, Camping Versilia Mare in Tuscany is a well-equipped site for families in search of stays near a gorgeous Versilia beach. The town's beach has been a popular destination for holidaygoers for centuries, and has a scenic promenade along the seafront. Grab a lounger in one of the designated areas on the beach or sign up for a surfing course to learn how to tackle the waves. If you ever get a sudden craving for pizza or pasta, there are many shops and restaurants within a few minutes' walk of the site. All of this is on top of the town's full schedule of entertainment and events from spring to late autumn. Do your hanging out on site and there’s also plenty to keep you busy, including an open-air swimming pool with a paddling pool for toddlers (both open during high season only), a tennis court and a mini football pitch. No need to move very far for refuelling either, as the poolside bar is open during high season for lunch and dinner, serving tasty dishes cooked on the spot as well as oven-baked pizzas and good local wines. This is also a top spot for cyclists: a bike path passes through the centre of Lido di Camaiore on its way from Viareggio (20 minutes by bike) and its many glam shops to the expanse of sandy serviced beach at Forte dei Marmi (25 minutes).

Powered grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: The people that managed this campsite are so nice and helpful. We needed to take a train to Florence, and they helped us navigate the system and even arranged a taxi to the train station. The campground is located about a 15 minute walk from the beach. We rented bikes and did some long rides along the bike path that runs along the sea. unlike 80% of the campsite we stayed in, the Wi-Fi actually worked at the site. The spaces are large and there are many trees for shade. The bathrooms were clean, but could definitely use an update, but we’re not picky as long as the water is hot and it’s clean. There is a bike shop up the strand about 2 km and we rented electric mountain bikes from that store. They were fantastic and really fun to ride around the city.

Local attractions

When all you want to do is bask in the sun, head for the golden sands on the public beach (10 minutes’ walk), where you can lounge in clubs and lidos on the shoreline, participate in watersports and admire the views from the pier at sunset. With several Tuscan big-hitters within easy reach, you can take a break from beach life to spot a very famous leaning tower in Pisa or stroll around the Renaissance-era ramparts at Lucca (both half an hour’s drive). Even closer to base is the medieval town of Pietrasanta (15 minutes), backed by the stunning Apuan Alps and known for the marble and bronze sculptures adorning its streets. Music lover or not, it’s worth making for Torre del Lago (10 minutes) to visit the gorgeous Villa Museo Puccini – once home to composer Giacomo Puccini – on Lake Massaciuccoli. Afterwards, take a quiet meander around the shores of the lake, keeping watch for grey herons and other wading birds as you walk.
