Family beach days = sorted. Getting to the sands from Camping Village Mareblu merely involves the simple task of strolling down a private path to the point where the pine forest opens out onto views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The beach is free to access (bargain) so you can wander down whenever you fancy it for lessons at the surf school or paddles while gazing out towards Elba, Corsica and Capraia. There's plenty of space to get your fix of nature and sea air at this sprawling family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the Tuscany town of Cecina. Take a little detour off the beach path to follow trails through the seaside-hugging nature reserve next to the site. If all that sounds like rather too much effort, stick around on site for swims at the open-air pool while those of a livelier disposition get their kicks with games of football, volleyball, table tennis or pétanque. There’s bike hire too for those who are keen on exploring, but not so keen on walking. Family eats = also sorted. Toddle along to the on-site shopping centre to order something filling at the restaurant or pizzeria, or pick up self-catering supplies in the supermarket (or sink a couple of drinks at the bar if you're after a bit of chillout time). Don’t want to spend evenings hanging out at your pitch? Regular entertainment is scheduled throughout high season.

Liked Nice campsite, clean sanitary facilities, spacious parking spaces for motorhomes. Animation programs for children are adequate. Helpful and pleasant staff.

Disliked The distance to the sea is quite large.

Liked Inte så jätte mycket som var bra här faktiskt.

Disliked Dem va inte speciellt bra på engelska. Man va tvungen att köpa badmössa till alla för att bada i poolen. 250kr för 4 personer. De va väldigt mycket för barn inte lika mycket för vuxna. Havet som vissas på bilderna ser helt annorlunda ut i verkligheten. De va väldigt smutsigt och gick inte bada. Stranden var verkligen dålig. Toaletterna va man tvungen att ha eget toapapper. Gick knappt att spola och var spindlar och spindelnät överallt.

Liked Sehr gute Organisation, die Sitze sind groß genug für Wohnwagen und Zelte. Es gibt zu jeder Zeit heißes Wasser, die Toiletten sind sauber. Das Objekt verfügt über ein Lebensmittelgeschäft sowie ein Restaurant und eine Bar. Es ist sehr friedlich und ohne unnötigen Lärm.

Local attractions

Start stays with explores close to base – it’s less than 10 minutes’ drive to Cecina and its archaeology museum, waterpark, horse riding, scuba diving and boat trips. If that latter piques interest, venture as far as Piombino (45 minutes) to clamber aboard ferries to the islands of Elba and Corsica. Prefer to stick to dry land? It’s a 15-minute drive to see exotic animals at Parco Gallorose zoo, 35 minutes to the 14th-century basilica of Santuario della Madonna di Montenero, and a little under an hour and a half to puppet shows and strolls among sculptures at Pinocchio Park. Those who favour a bit of town time will have lots to choose from hereabouts: the port city of Livorno is 50 minutes from base and is a must-visit for its aquarium, markets, museums, gardens and forts, and the famed leaning tower of Pisa is less than an hour away. Further urban days can be had in Lucca (an hour and 10 minutes), or spending well-timed stays watching the famed Palio horserace in Siena or visiting Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and the statue of David in Florence (both cities are an hour and 45 minutes away).
