Have free reign of eastern Sicily’s buff beaches, stunning cities and cracking countryside from Agricampeggio Erbavoglio in the province of Syracuse… this safely fenced-off farm park is made up of a sweeping area dotted in ancient olive trees and is aimed at travellers seeking peace, quiet and a top place to base themselves for trips to the UNESCO heritage site of Ortigia or the Plemmirio Nature Reserve (both a 15-minute drive away)...
In between tours of the lush Italian isle, spread out on site while the sea breeze flutters over you from the coast (35 minutes’ walk away) to browse the wifi or chomp on baked goods and other treats from the on-site shop, getting up only to wander around the leafy green grounds, have a go on the ping-pong table or to take one of the horse riding, canoeing and boat trips organised by the park in the local area.
When the kids are tired out after these types of action-packed days, a babysitter service means you can leave them napping under supervision while you skedaddle off for a pizza or pasta dinner in the nearest village of Carrozziere (about a 15-minute walk) or the city of Syracuse (10 minutes’ drive).

Those buff beaches in Sicily are within easy driving distance of the park: head to Arenella – one of the most popular in Syracuse – 10 minutes away or lounge in the sun in between the almond trees and clear blue waters lapping the island’s coast at Marchesa di Cassibile beach (20 minutes).
For must-see city sights the day after beach times, there’s the old town of Ortigia just past Syracuse for the Roman Ruins and Neapolis Archaeological Park (15 minutes); a half an hour drive instead will take you to Noto for fancy palaces including the Palazzio Ducezio and Palazzio Nicolaci (make sure to swing by the cathedral as well for good measure).
Balance urban venturing with a bit of nature by bopping over to Plemmirio Nature Reserve, a place of protected beaches accessible on hikes where you can deep water solo or snorkel in the Ionian Sea. The rocky cliff scenery also ensures it’s a brill option for breaking in those hiking boots...
