  • Quiet Piedmont site on the southeast shores of Lake Orta
  • A five-minute drive from Orta San Giulio’s medieval old town
  • Views of San Giulio Island; a couple of minutes’ walk from a beach
It’s no wonder that so many people want to go to Lake Orta in northern Italy, tempted by flicking through pictures of its blue water surrounded by lush green slopes and adorable little beaches. Camping Bellavista takes up a prime position on the lake’s southeast shore, overlooking San Giulio Island. The quiet, green setting is only a 10-minute drive away from Orta San Giulio's medieval old town and ferries to the historic island. Spacious and well equipped, the scenic site has modern toilets, hot showers and a play area where kids can let off steam. The reception has a helpful information point, should you want to browse your options for excursions, although one of the key things to note is that the nearest beach – a small, pebbled destination with spectacular views – is just a couple of minutes’ walk away from the site. There is a bakery selling fresh bread and a variety of other products on the edge of Orta San Giulio, five minutes’ drive away. If you need further supplies, head out to the shops and restaurants in the old town, which are a 10-minute drive away. From the old town, there are ferry connections to San Giulio Island, where you can tour the historic Basilica di San Giulio. While Lake Orta is clearly the main attraction at Camping Bellavista, this is also a very nifty spot for getting out to famed Lake Maggiore, which is within a 25-minute drive, or the 1,492-metre-high Western Alps mountain Mottarone, which is within half an hour’s drive.

What customers say

Beautiful lakeside spot with great views and a friendly vibe. Staff are helpful, facilities are modern and clean, and the beach is close by. Some found pitches a bit tight and lacking shade, with minor toilet/shower issues. Site is improving.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Bra beliggenhet, flott rolig område. Meget hyggelig vertskap

Power optional grass campsite (premium)

Liked Leaving.

Disliked Everything. Cramped pitches. Actually i should car park space as that is where my premium grass pitch was apparently located. Everything crammed so tight you couldn't move. I can see why they take the payment in full before you arrive. We booked 3 nights but left after 1. I would have left straight away but we had been driving quite a while sp had to stay. Also you cant walk anywhere really. Also its not on the beach you have to walk along a crazy road with no pavements to get there!

From the manager: Dear Guest,

We are sorry to read your review and, in particular, to find several comments that do not reflect the work and commitment we put into our campsite every day.

We would like to clarify a few points. Our pitches have an average size of approximately 7 x 6 meters, as also stated in our campsite information.

Regarding the Wi-Fi, we have recently completed important upgrade works to provide coverage throughout the entire campsite, with the aim of further improving the service for our guests. For this reason, we are surprised by your comment, considering the effort and investment made.

Cleanliness of the sanitary facilities is also an absolute priority for us: the bathrooms are cleaned and disinfected daily using specific products and are constantly monitored by our staff.

The location of Camping BellaVista is one of its main strengths: we are situated within the Natural Reserve of Torre di Buccione, in an area of Lake Orta widely appreciated by many guests for its tranquility and unique views. As is common in lakeside campsites, a road is necessary to connect the different areas: the lake cannot be located within the protected reserve, and the public beach is accessible by crossing the road.In addition, we also collaborate with an affiliated private beach to offer further options to our guests.

We therefore do not understand the request to remove information about the public beach from our website, as it is accurate and transparent\.

We fully respect that every guest may have different expectations and preferences, but we believe it is important to clarify that the review does not reflect our daily commitment, especially regarding cleanliness and services, which are fundamental priorities for us.

We sincerely hope that future guests will evaluate the campsite as a whole and have the opportunity to experience our work personally.
Kind regards,
Camping BellaVista

Local attractions

Perhaps the most logical place to begin your adventures is Lake Orta itself, where there are several historic sites with spectacular views down over the lake. One of the closest spots is Torre di Buccione (35 minutes’ walk), an old tower with stunning views of the water and surrounding mountains. Up in Orta San Giulio is Sacro Monte di Orta (five minutes' drive), a Roman Catholic complex with 20 chapels dedicated to the life of St Francis of Assisi. Built in 1590, this destination is part of the Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Santuario della Madonna del Sasso (25 minutes) should also be worth the short drive. Raised 638 metres above the lake, it has views of the Alps, including the Mottarone mountain (25 minutes). If you have any time left over, a 25-minute drive will get you to Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second-largest lake. You could take a boat out to the scenic Borromean Islands (35 minutes to ferry ports) or drive around the shores to take in the views, stopping at any restaurants that take your fancy.
