With views over the gorgeous green hills all around, Area Camper Piccolo Ranch is a lovely spot for a quiet break in the Marche region.
Come along here and you’ll be parking up on fully serviced touring pitches with access to toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible facilities) as well as a chemical disposal point and motorhome service area. Groups, families and those travelling with dogs are all welcome to stay here – there’s a play area for the kids and plenty of options for dog walks nearby.
Getting out to explore the area may involve things like hiking, following nature trails, visiting local wineries or touring traditional villages and towns to see historic sights – Arcevia, with its nine castles, in the surrounding area is a good place to start (it’s about 20 minutes’ drive away). The subterranean sights of the Grotte di Frasassi (35 minutes) should certainly be on the schedule too, and perhaps a trip to the beach in Senigallia (40 minutes).
After all of that, you’ll need to cool down and get something to eat – so it’s handy that the site has its own outdoor pool (with kids’ pool) and restaurant (with takeaways for those days when you’d like to settle on your pitch to watch the sunset.

Local attractions
The first place on your to-visit list should probably be Arcevia (20 minutes’ drive), named among I Borghi più belli d’Italia (most beautiful villages in Italy) and at the centre of the Nine Castle of Arcevia. These aren’t actually in the village itself but in the surrounding area – touring them all, taking in the villages of Avacelli, Montale, Loretello and others, makes a fabulous day out.
The area around the site has some other low-key attractions to check out, too – these include the Roman remains near Castelleone di Suasa (10 minutes), the grand fortress of Rocca Roveresca Mondavio (20 minutes) and the village of Corinaldo (20 minutes), birthplace of Saint Maria Goretti. The gleaming exhibits of Musei dei Bronzi Dorati and the toy displays of Museo del giocattolo are both about 20 minutes away.
For a big-ticket day out, head to Grotte di Frasassi (35 minutes) for a tour of one of Europe’s largest karst cave systems, or stroll around the historic centre of Senigallia (40 minutes) before hitting the beach.
