Sunshine, sea breezes and sand… it’s all yours at Gitavillage Club Degli Amici, 20 minutes’ drive from Capalbio in the Lazio stretch of the Maremma coast. Set in the shade of centuries-old pine forest, the grass pitches are steps away from a Tyrrhenian Sea beach via a wooden bridge and pathway through flowering ‘macchia’ scrub. By day, hang around on the site for fun with the kids – supervise toddlers at the playing field and during messy painting sessions, or organise family sports competitions on the multi-use courts. Alternatively, drift down to the beach to sip a glass of wine in the ‘chiringuito’ bar or laze on sun beds under white parasols. Pass a leisurely day learning how to kitesurf or having a dip in the turquoise sea, then dine outdoors on local seafood and pasta dishes in the restaurant as you watch the sun set over the sea – and after dark, watch for shooting stars too. And more great news – both the holiday park and the beach are dog friendly, so your four-legged chums can tag along for the ride too. There’s also a dedicated dog park on site for canine zoomies and games of chase.

Liked Good size pitches. Nice and flat. Staff friendly and helpful

Disliked Extremely loud bass music from entertainment stage that went on until midnight every night impossible to sleep through. Shop didn’t sell ice. From a personal opinion the beach was very crowded. Cost for a 2 sunbed and parasol was -€21.90 a day. No toilet paper and most toilets didn’t have seats

Liked De service was erg goed, ik had bij reserveren perongeluk de verkeerde datum ingevuld, dat kon allemaal goed geregeld worden via de telefoon. De camping heeft een eigen winkeltje wat aanwezig is, dat was ook erg fijn.

Disliked Het toiletgebouw is open, waardoor er veel vogels doorheen vliegen en er wat vogelpoep op de muren van de douches en wc's zit. Ook zijn er geen toiletbrillen aanwezig, maar gelukkig worden de wc's wel iedere ochtend schoongemaakt.

There are cultural expeditions to be made along the Maremma coastline; discover the remains of an ancient Etruscan city at Vulci Archaeological Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can tour thermal baths, defence walls, a Roman aqueduct and forum. There’s more fun on water available too: take to the sea on a mini-cruise to quiet beaches on the island of Giglio from the smart seaside resort of Porto Santo Stefano (45 minutes), or go snorkelling in clear waters off Spiaggia Le Cannelle beach (an hour) on the Monte Argentario peninsula.
