Camping Tiber is a placid woodland wonderland far up in the mountains, 1,200 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mount Fumaiolo, and near the ski resort of Le Balze, the springwater source of the Tiber river and a huge bouldering cliff. Waymarked hiking and mountain biking trails network the surrounding woods and slopes, including several challenging trails running directly from the site; if you'd prefer someone to show you the ropes, the site staff organise excursions around the local area during the summer months. And as you're going to be staying right near the source of the Tiber river, you'll have an unadulterated supply of springwater to keep you replenished on woodland walks while you forage around the forest floor for mushrooms, raspberries and strawberries. For playtime back at base, a games room and a playground with a trampoline and a ping pong table will keep kids well entertained, leaving grownups to sup a local wine or beer at the on-site bar. Camping Tiber is about a kilometre from the town of Balze, where there's a public pool, a football pitch and tennis courts, plus restaurants and pizzerias. Other amenities in the town include a post office, a bank, a pharmacy, a newsagent, a butcher and a mini market.

Summer's a great time to explore the multitude of hiking, walking and mountain biking trails that network the slopes of Mount Fumaiolo, such as on the guided hike up to the source of the Tiber through shaded forests filled with beech and fir trees; access this straight from the site. Climbers will feel right at home around here too: the cliff nearby – Romagna's largest cliff – is home to more than 100 bouldering routes. During winter, skiing's the thing to do around here; while the wider area is dotted with heaps of ski resorts, the closest is a convenient five kilometres away in Balze, which is also a popular spot for food and wine tours around the town's restaurants and inns.
