Looking for a chilled stay on the spectacular Calabrian coast? Camping Poker has got to be a contender. Located 10 minutes’ drive from the historic village of Isola di Capo Rizzuto and edging the Ionian Sea, the site sits amid shady greenery and overlooks a stretch of mixed sandy and rocky beach in the Capo Rizzuto Protected Marine Area. Peaceful and relaxed, the site has pitches shaded by olive trees, and a raft of helpful amenities to make life as smooth as possible. Keep everybody looking spick and span thanks to hot showers and a parent-and-baby room, and pick up anything you need from the shop. By day, wander down to the campsite’s private beach with deckchairs and sun shades all neatly laid out, where the water quality is excellent and the waves are shallow for safe swimming. By night – should you wish – you and the family can join in with the organised evening jollity. Regional specialities are served in the grill restaurant, woodfired pizzas are cooked to order in the pizzeria, and you can make the most of the sea views from the terrace bar while sinking a couple of happy hour cocktails.

Disliked No one on reception the day of arrival very young staff that didn’t know where the chemical waste etc was pitches practically unusable for a Motorhome as trees all over the site only squat toilets showers very poor . Only stayed overnight and moved on wouldn’t recommend to anyy

Liked Posto tranquillo adatto alle famiglie e al relax. Il panorama è bellissimo come il mare e le spiagge. I proprietari sono gentili e disponibili. Non c'era affollamento nei bagni e nelle docce perchè numerosi. Utile il servizio navetta ma al mare si arriva tranquillamente a piedi.

Disliked Andrebbe curato maggiormente nei dettagli e fatta più manutenzione.
Alcuni dipendenti dovrebbero imitare l'esempio dei titolari riguardo a gentilezza e disponibilità.

Liked Camping poker è perfetto per giovani e meno giovani. I bagni e le docce sono sempre puliti. C'è un bar ristorante in cui si mangia molto bene, tutto è curato nei mini particolari. Il personale è molto cordiale e attento. La spiaggia è meravigliosa, molto tranquilla, raggiungibile a piedi in 5 minuti tramite una comoda discesa o con navetta messa a disposizione dal campeggio. Le piazzole sono ben livellato e si dorme vista mare. Torneremo.

Local attractions

Learn about Calabria in bygone times with a visit to the Column of Hera Lacinia – the sole remains of a Greek temple at Capo Colonna (25 minutes’ drive), where you can also see relics excavated at the site in the archaeological museum. Also rewarding a visit is the sparkling-white Sanctuary of the Madonna di Capo Colonna (half an hour) nearby, for its revered icon of the Black Madonna. Another place with bags of history is Crotone (also half an hour), where you can tour the ramparts of an impressive castle dating from 840 AD, and have a mooch around another archaeological museum, where the standout exhibit is the Golden Crown of Hera, unearthed at Capo Colonna. The city is also a pleasant spot for an amble along the seafront esplanade and perhaps a chilled glass of local wine in a pavement café. You can also tour one of Calabria’s most celebrated landmarks, the Aragonese Castle of Le Castella (20 minutes). With its origins in 204 BC, this much-restored edifice has a spectacular position on a tiny island connected to the mainland by a thin strip of land.
