  • Well-kept farm site with views over Hessian Rhön Nature Park
  • A 20-minute drive from the Hessian Skittles; 40 minutes from Milseburg
  • On an 18th-century farm with a shared firepit and outdoor seating
Searching for that spot where you'll really be able to unwind? This might just be it: the spacious pitches at Camping mit Rhönpanorama are laid out over an 18th-century farm in the Hessen countryside, with views over the Hessian Rhön Nature Park that you can’t help but soak up. What is there to do here, you ask? Firstly, drive into Hessian Rhön Nature Park for landscapes such as hills, moors, forests and meadows grazed by Rhön sheep. The Hessian Skittles, a set of nine extinct volcanoes, are 20 minutes’ drive away from the site for hilly hikes or practising your mountain-biking skills. Milseburg, 40 minutes’ drive away from the farm, is another extinct volcano. In the Rhön mountains, it has a fine network of hiking and biking trails. If you don’t fancy driving anywhere just yet, get out on foot among the half-timbered buildings and gorgeous church in Hessian, the village next to the site. Climb Stoppelsberg directly from the village to check out old castle ruins with a view of the Rhön, Vogelsbergkreis and Knüll Nature Park. The ancient stones of Naturdenkmal 'Lange Steine' are also half an hour’s walk away; ask the team about booking a guided tour if you want. Before closing the curtains on the day, you might want to stop by the shared firepit area which has outdoor seating. For your fireside supplies there are supermarkets and restaurants in Eiterfeld, 15 minutes’ drive away from the site.

What customers say

This quiet campground boasts stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for hiking and biking. Guests loved the friendly owners, accurate description, and spacious, relaxed vibe. Arrival and departure were a breeze. Basic facilities could use an update, especially for toilet cassette emptying, but the beautiful setting and welcoming hosts make it a highly recommended stay.

Liked Quiet place with a great view, incredible surrounding with possibilities for hiking and biking. Owner is very helpful.
Note the accuracy of the description, I consider it a bonus that the place has no extras. Just a simple and nice place to stay and enjoy, bringing your own device and service - level with you

Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked A relaxed approach, no marked pitches and plenty of space even when 5 others there. The camping area is a large grassed area with barns behind and fence in front with far reaching views beyond from anywhere you pitch. The village is 100m from the farm with a special church next too the camping area. When I visited the centre road was closed for resurfacing but this is a very quiet village, high up in the german countryside with largely arable fields around. The facilities could be improved but still gets 10 stars as it a lovely place to spend time. Keen on watching the birds there too, plenty to keep any interested party happy.

Local attractions

If you’re always on the lookout for your next hike, make your way to Wasserkuppe (50 minutes’ drive) for mountain hikes with views that you will surely remember for a long time. As the highest peak in the mountains of the Rhön, the trails are simply stunning. A swim is often a good way to end a day of hiking, and handily Pfordter See (35 minutes) is a nice spot for a dip during the bathing season (check the water status ahead of arriving, just to be sure…). Just in the mood for a light stroll, with some lunch at a local restaurant? Schlitz (25 minutes) is a nice setting for those sorts of activities. The town has a Castle Ring with a church, half-timbered houses, castles, towers and former lords’ houses. There’s another cool castle over in Friedewald (25 minutes) too. City trip? Set off to Fulda (half an hour), a city packed with things to ‘ooh’ and ‘ah’ over, from a cathedral to the Dommuseum with religious art and Stadtschloss palace surrounded by landscaped gardens.
