- Pop-up, adults-only site in Munich park for Springfest
- A 20-minute drive from the city centre and festival grounds
- Breakfast and dinner, all-you-can-drink bar and after-parties on site
Most beer aficionados are familiar with Oktoberfest, but what about Springfest? Frühlingsfest to the locals, it’s pretty much summed up as Munich’s ‘other’ beer festival. It’s sort of a little sister to Oktoberfest, with all the attractions of the famous German beer festival, just on a slightly smaller scale (and in spring rather than autumn, obviously…)
A mere 20 minutes’ drive from the action is Springfest at Campingplatz Obermenzing, an adults-only site packed with fellow beer-loving party people and from where public transport can whisk you off to the beery proceedings.
Accommodation here is all set up with camping mattresses and sleeping bags ready for your arrival, so you can just dump your kit and dive straight into the shenanigans. A cooked breakfast every morning is a fine idea for stomach-lining, and a tasty dinner in the evening is a sociable way to soak up the day’s indulgence.
After eats, the party continues with live bands, DJs and entertainment on site, and an all-you-can-drink beer, wine and sangria bar to keep you topped up with the good stuff.
And although you might be all a-whirl with the party vibes, it’s worth giving a nod to the practical stuff on site too: vending machines and a small shop for extra snacks and other essentials, wifi and charging stations, and bathrooms with token-operated hot showers to keep you freshened up for the next round. Tokens can also be picked up at reception for the laundry facilities should you swing your stein a tad too vigorously.

Local attractions
Feeling the need for a break from the beer? (Yep, it happens…) Perhaps you might like to clear your head with a wander around riverside Blutenburg Castle (a five-minute drive away) or aim for Nymphenburg (15 minutes) to stroll around the castle grounds and the pretty pathways of the botanical gardens.
There are more rural rambles on the cards over at the Sternberger See (45 minutes), where you can walk on lakeside paths or take a cruise out onto the water for a lazier way to see the surrounds. If you reckon plunging into water would perk you up, take a trip to the Galaxy Erding waterpark (40 minutes) for a spectacular 27 waterslides totalling almost three kilometres to whoosh your way down.
Other options for a chilled day out include lusting after the fancy cars at the BMW Museum (15 minutes), chuckling at animal antics at Hellabrun Zoo (25 minutes) and settling in for a full-on film experience at Bavaria Filmstadt’s 4D cinema (half an hour).
