  • Family-friendly Rhône-Alpes campsite on the banks of the River Saône
  • Cave de Lugny 35 minutes by bike; Abbaye de Cluny 35 minutes
  • Kids’ entertainment, swimming pool; snack bar, restaurant and pizzeria
Sometimes you need to keep the kids entertained on holiday, and sometimes you’d just appreciate time off from the chores of daily life. Well, at Aux Rives du Soleil you can do both, and plenty more besides. Squeezed between the River Saône and its tributary the Reyssouze, this tree-shaded Rhône-Alpes campsite five minutes’ drive from Pont-de-Vaux has a tremendous amount going for it. Let’s consider the activities for starters. Toddlers can look forward to a small petting zoo, a playground with slides and seesaws, and a paddling pool that you can supervise from the surrounding picnic lawns. In high season, daily entertainment ranges from craft workshops to sports galas, as well as mini-discos and ghost tours in the evening. Parents and older kids get a look in too: competent swimmers have a full-size pool at their disposal, along with table-tennis, football and beach volleyball. Play pétanque, go wild swimming in the Saône, fish off the jetties or paddle kayaks down river. In the evening, get together for riotous sessions of bingo, quizzes and live music. And chores? What chores? Two modern amenities blocks with launderettes (and dog showers) make keeping everybody and everything clean a cinch, and there’s no need to lift a finger in the kitchen if you don’t feel like it, thanks to a bread-delivery service, all-day snacks in the food court and a choice of pizzeria or terrace restaurant for eating en famille.

What customers say

This is a large, well-kept site with friendly, helpful staff. Guests loved the clean facilities, especially the new washrooms, and the excellent on-site restaurant. Pitches are roomy and offer good shade. The pool is popular but can get busy. Some noted height restrictions at the entrance bridge and preferred electric pitches for more space.

Liked Great location on rivers edge. Lots of open space and wonderful wildlife haven, particularly if keen on birds. Friendly staff and lovely restaurant on site

Disliked Would have been useful to have been informed there is a height restriction on the bridge approaching campsite if crossing the river eastwards. Bridge height restriction 2.8m which meant a thirty minute diversion, if known prior could’ve have planned approach better.
Felt like the campsite was in need of a freshen up…the pontoons were covered in moss/algae, swimming pool looked a little tired

Liked Nicely laid out site. Bar was lovely and bar snacks great. Facilities were clean. Everywhere was dog friendly.

Disliked Shower’s were not the strongest, fine for showering, but skipped washing my hair. Just beware aware of height restrictions at bridge directly by site entrance we had to go around and cross the river at the next bridge to enter site from the other side.

Liked Lovely large site. Restaurant was amazing and the pizzas were lovely too. Site was busy because of the quad bike event but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Toilets were ok - remember your toilet paper.

Liked Great restaurant, pizzaria, nice pool, reception was amazing!
Facilities were clean, pools were looked after. Enough activities for kids and adults like bingo, men against women quiz, “olympic” games, performances

Disliked At some point without any notice the skelters were gone and we had our boys asking for them for days.

Also lots of people passing through so if you’re staying longer, you’ll have many neighbours. In case you got a kid that likes to make new friends, they should be aware it’s only for a short time.

Local attractions

If historic landmarks are on your sightseeing agenda, you’re in luck, as the stately Benedictine Abbaye de Cluny is only 35 minutes’ drive away, with its ornate bell towers, peaceful cloisters and art museum. Abbaye Saint-Philibert de Tournus (20 minutes’ drive) is a Romanesque masterpiece adorned with mosaics, and there are lavish apartments to tour at Château de Cormatin (35 minutes). Aux Rives du Soleil sits in the scenic wine region of Burgundy, so if you fancy a taster or two of local vintages, Cave de Viré - La Maison Vérizet (10 minutes) is known for its excellent Chardonnays… or for something a bit unusual, take an e-scooter tour through the vineyards, ending up at a tasting in the cellars of Cave de Lugny (35 minutes by bike). If the kids need more action, take them cycling (bring your own bikes) on the riverside path along La Voie Bleue–Moselle-Saône (direct from the site), or introduce them to golf at Golf de Mâcon La Salle (15 minutes). Fancy time on the water? Rent life jackets from reception and go canoeing or kayaking along the Saône (again, from the site).
