- Peaceful park on a small horse farm in the Drôme Provençale
- Within easy reach of Dieulefit, Grignan, Nyons, Avignon and Montélimar
- Close to a bathing pool and the river
After smashing scenic surrounds and easy access to oodles of fun family attractions in the Drôme Provençale region?
Camping du Devès is most probably your kind of park then.
Set across seven hectares on a small horse farm next Dieulefit village (one of the main movers in the French Resistance during World War II), Devès is surrounded by kilometres upon kilometres of green French countryside for your walking wonderment.
After long days of rambling around the local area, come home and kick back in your self-contained cabin, which is kitted out with two bedrooms (one with a double bed and the other with twins and a bunk) and a cosy living room with a dining table and chairs, comfy banquette seating and a TV. Handily, your amenities are in the caravan too, and include a well-equipped kitchen and a nicely kept bathroom.
Start, end or spend all your days out on your cabin's furnished terrace: enjoy breakfasts of croissants and fresh baguettes from the village bakery, sit and gaze admiringly at the landscape that lies beyond the park, or while away long evenings quaffing carafes of Côtes du Rhône (which, naturally, you'll have picked up on the wine tour you went on recently).
Entertainment on site for kids comes in the form of a cute little Wendy house and a huge mass of grass to run around and play games in. If that's not enough to tire them out, then there's a bathing pool surrounded by grass and sun loungers about five minutes' walk away, or you can take them for a dip in the river that runs nearby.

Local attractions
As Camping du Devès is around four kilometres from Dieulefit, it's within easy reach of shops, cafés and the weekly markets of several rural villages, which'll give you a chance to pick up some local produce for several fine French feasts back at base.
The Drôme region is particularly popular for pedal rides and promenades: plenty of walks begin on or near the site, and further afield you've got hikes among vineyards and olive groves on the Rocheville estate, where you can learn about the region's treasured Nyons black olive and learn to spot the Côtes du Rhône region's different grape varieties.
For more splendidly scenic walks, this time punctuated by wildlife, visit the famed geological nature reserve and bird sanctuary of Saoû Forest, half an hour's drive away, to see all sorts of species ranging from birds, foxes and badgers to boars, weasels and deer.
Other ideas for sightseeing days in the area include trips to Chateau de Grignan; the handsome village of Le Poët-Laval; lively Nyons; the UNESCO-listed Papal Palace Episcopal Ensemble and bridge in Avignon; and Montélimar, known best for its nougat.
