- Well-equipped safari tents by a stunning lake in the Drôme
- Good location for hikes, bike rides, climbing and watersports
- Heated pool, restaurant, lake beach area and summer activities
Well, you can see why this Drôme site got named Le Lac Bleu, can’t you? That gorgeous (and indeed very blue) lake is right next to Villatent at Camping Le Lac Bleu, meaning that you’ll be able to stroll from your well-equipped safari tent down to the water whenever the fancy takes you.
You could sit and stare at those views across the lake towards the Vercors mountains for quite some time (there’s a nice beach area to help with that) – or go one step further by getting in for a paddle, a swim or a grand entrance via the waterslides. Canoes can be hired on site for more extensive water-based exploration, and there are bikes to rent too if you prefer to stay on dry land.
Away from the lake there’s more swimming at the heated pool, which is covered in cooler weather but has the roof open when the sun comes out. Next to that is a playground, a volleyball court, a pétanque court and table tennis.
Come along in summer and the kids can also get stuck into the activities and entertainment on site (for ages five to 10, and in English) – crafts, shows and dressing up are often on the schedule for the children, and there’s usually something for the grownups too.
Can’t get enough of those lake views? Soak them up a bit more from the restaurant, which has a lakeside terrace where you can eat and drink while looking out over the water. A shop on site has provisions if you want to use the kitchen in your tent; more shops and restaurants are in Châtillon-en-Diois, five minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions
The Drôme is a particularly scenic area, and one that lends itself well to hikes and bike rides through its mountainous territory. If you’d like to see the views from on high, there are climbing trips nearby and the Arbo’Magic tree-climbing park is 10 minutes’ walk away (and there’s a paragliding centre 20 minutes’ drive away if you want to climb much, much higher).
This area is, of course, named after its river, and many suggest that the best way to explore that river is on a canoe or kayak trip. Saillans (half an hour’s drive) is a good spot to head to for river-based outings whether you’re an experienced paddler or trying it out with the kids for the first time.
For a gentler day out, perhaps try wandering among the butterflies at La Ferme aux Papillons (10 minutes’ drive) or taking a stroll through the lavender fields of Les 4 Vallées, which turns the purple blooms into all sorts of products to sample and buy.
