- Peaceful riverside site near Sablières in the southern Ardèche region
- Near 50km of hiking trails and within an hour's drive of Pont d'Arc
- Trout fishing in the Drobie river plus natural swimming pool and beach
In a land far, far away from busy roads, Camping La Drobie is a peaceful family site surrounded by nature, three kilometres from the quiet little village of Sablières. A splendid site setting can be easily ticked off your holiday list here: more than 50 kilometres of hiking trails network the hills around its local village and the Drobie river next door is pure paradise for trout anglers.
Activity options are well sorted around this spot: work up an appetite for breakfast, lunch or dinner (the site's got a great restaurant – more on that later) with ping pong and pétanque tournaments while the kids slide, swing and clamber over in the playground. In the evenings, regular family games and kids' activities are arranged by the Drobie team; the disco livens things up at the weekends, with dancing often going on until the wee small hours.
A large outdoor pool is to hand for lazy days on site, and the roomy sun terrace that surrounds it is a top spot to soak up a few French rays. For those who prefer their watery frolics a little more l'eau naturel, then the neighbouring river and beach are where it's at for swimming, sunbathing and trout fishing.
Foodwise, the restaurant is very popular here: fine French food including deli meat platters, locally made patés, dauphinois pots, steaks and seasonal meat and fish dishes are served throughout the day and right into the evening. During July and August the terrace is open for alfresco eats and there are regular themed foodie evenings with takeaways available too.
The grocery store is well stocked and open daily during peak season.

Vallon Pont d'Arc – another absolute must-see – is around an hour's drive away: visit Chauvet Cave to see some of the world's oldest examples of cave art, and take a stroll over to nearby Pont d'Arc and its framework for Gorges de l'Ardèche hiking, canoeing, canyoning and climbing.
For more history-themed Ardèche exploration, travel a few kilometres down the road to Balazuc, where the Museum of Paleontology showcases displays containing more than 800 fossils to regale visitors with tales of the Ardèche region's 300 million or so's years of history.
