- Peaceful family site 10 minutes' walk from Oraison town centre
- Around an hour's drive from the Gorges du Verdon
- Kids' creative workshops and family entertainment in high season
The folk at peaceful Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur site Camping Les Oliviers quite possibly didn't have to scratch their heads too much when it came to naming their place: they’ll simply have looked to the surrounding olive groves for inspiration.
If they'd wanted a longer name they could have gone further, mentioning the chirping cicadas and the Durance valley views that give the place a laidback rural vibe despite its proximity to Oraison... The town centre is a gentle 15-minute stroll away, putting shops, restaurants and other amenities within easy reach.
This is a strategic spot to settle in for Provence activities and attractions: it's around 25 minutes from the Valensole lavender fields and within an hour of arty Aix-en-Provence and the Gorges du Verdon.
Busy types don't have to leave the site to get their fix of activity though: stick around to spend time at the outdoor pool (with paddling pool for the small sorts and a sun terrace for post-dip loafing), gather pals for games of volleyball, pétanque and table tennis, or hire bikes to toddle around on two wheels.
Throughout the summer you can pack the kids off to creative workshops by day, before catching up over sociable evening entertainment. A games room, library and TV room are on site for less clement days, and the park has its own snack bar for meals or takeaways at times when you don’t fancy cooking or walking into town.

Local attractions
Like to fill your hols with outdoorsy antics? Start at Les Buissonnades leisure park (10 minutes' drive), where watersports and outdoor games await for those who like to get active, and a sandy stretch provides space for those who don’t. You might also select a steed for horseback outings from Forcalquier (25 minutes) or launch canoes to paddle down the Durance river half an hour away.
More fine canoe trips are at the gorgeous Gorges du Verdon; the turquoise waters and craggy cliffs are around an hour's drive from the site. If that's not quite what you had in mind, there are plenty of other ways to see the scenery, including rafting, canyoning, hiking, climbing and paragliding.
A feast of colour and fragrance is in store for those who time their visits to the Valensole lavender fields (25 minutes' drive) just right – June and July are usually best for blooms. For pretty sights all year round, head to the splendid gardens around elegant Château de Sauvan (25 minutes) or amble around Aix-en-Provence (50 minutes), taking in its handsome historic centre, perusing the paintings at the Granet Museum and seeing the studio where Cézanne created his art.
