  • Peaceful mountain campsite with spectacular Lac du Lauzet-Ubaye views
  • Watersports 10 minutes’ walk; Fort de Dormillouse half an hour’s drive
  • Roomy glamping units with a pétanque court and access to alpine walks
In a stellar location overlooking Lac du Lauzet-Ubaye in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Camping Le Noyer du Baron is a peaceful spot surrounded by forest and backed by the rugged foothills of the Provençal Alps. And even better – spectacular on-site views extend down the Ubaye Valley to the village of Le Lauzet-Ubaye (10 minutes’ walk). Spacious glamping units are scattered over a hillside shaded by trees, each equipped with the basics (crockery, hanging space, proper beds) to make your stay effortless and comfortable. It’s all too easy to relax and put your feet up in this green and pleasant setting, but should you be looking for outdoorsy action, there’s plenty of that going on too. Simply head for the pétanque court and make new friends over a game or two, or take a family hike in the surrounding hills. Wander down to waterside Le Lauzet-Ubaye, where summertime life revolves around the lake and its facilities for paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming off the artificial beach.

What customers say

This well-kept campground offers a peaceful mountain setting with lovely lake views, perfect for swimming and watersports. Guests loved the friendly, helpful staff, clean facilities, and shaded sites. Despite minor communication or site allocation hiccups for some, the overall feedback is very positive, with many recommending it and planning to return. A great base for exploring the Alps.

Power optional grass campsite

Power optional grass campsite

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Beautiful, tranquil location. Right next to a lake which has plenty of shade and great for swimming or paddle boarding. Beautiful views of the mountains, reasonable amount of shade on the pitch. Clean facilities. Friendly helpful staff. Peaceful and cool in the evenings. Only think to be aware of is there is no shop nearby which is not an issue if you are prepared. Barcelonnette is about 20 mins drive and is a lovely town with a couple of supermarkets and nice independent shops and cafes. Would definitely recommend.

Local attractions

Rambles abound in the alpine foothills; stroll up to the single-span Pont Roman (15 minutes’ walk) for views over the Ubaye River, or take the route up to the Fontaine de l’Ours (two hours and 20 minutes) for the kids to find the wooden bear sculpture among the pine trees. For a longer hike, take the car up to Lac du Lauzerot (50 minutes’ drive, have a swim while you’re there) and set out on foot through alpine pastures to the natural springs at the Source de Jérusalem (three hours and 40 minutes’ walk) mountain viewpoint. Ramp up activity levels even further with white-water rafting on the Ubaye River Gorge (five minutes) or canyoning along its steep sides. See how monks once lived with tour of the Romanesque church and peaceful, flower-filled cloisters at Abbaye Notre-Dame de Boscodon (40 minutes’ drive), or follow the steep former military trail some 8,000 feet up into the mountains to the Fort de Dormillouse (half an hour) to watch paragliders floating around the mountain peaks.
