Shaded by the tall maritime pines and holm oaks of the Forêt de Suzac, Ideal Camping has spacious pitches on the outskirts of the seaside resort of St-Georges-de-Didonne, in the Charente-Maritime department. What’s your pleasure? Sandy beaches, perhaps? Then you'll be pleased to hear that the long crescent of Plage St-Georges-de-Didonne is only 200 metres away. You can unfurl your towel and relax on the golden sand as soon as you arrive – or, if you feel active, walk (or cycle) to the lighthouse at the northern end of the beach, then continue on past the headland to another sandy beach at Royan. Whatever you do, it pays to stay at the beach until early evening, as there's often a spectacular sunset. There’s also plenty to do on site, starting with a waterpark with pools (including a paddling area), slides and a Jacuzzi. Kids can also let off some steam in the well-equipped playground, or challenge their mates at the ping-pong table or on the multisport field. During peak season, the site also runs a lively entertainment programme with such activities as boules competitions, live music events and themed soirées. Barbecues are allowed, and a mini market on site sells a wide range of foodstuffs (including buttery croissants and freshly baked baguettes for breakfast). Alternatively, the snack bar serves burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes, or you can explore the restaurants and cafés in the centre of St-Georges-de-Didonne (five minutes’ drive). The site has twelve well-equipped and well-maintained toilet blocks with hot water and select equipment adapted for people with reduced mobility. There's also a launderette.

Great spot near the beach, with roomy, shady sites and mostly friendly staff. Clean washrooms with plenty of showers/toilets, and a fun pool. Shop's well-stocked. Sites can be close, with occasional noise. Paid Wi-Fi can be spotty. Little to no toilet paper/soap in washrooms.

Liked Nothing our family and friends liked about this site . We only slept there and spent the day at another park due to how bad it was

Disliked Anyone booking needs to understand that the pictures are extremely misleading.we even left a day early , we wanted to leave on day one but had booked the zoo in palmyre.
The pool looks nothing like it , angry staff at pool , no kids floaties allowed, we spent ten mins and walked out . Need to note the photos are absolutely nothing like it,the shop is an empty shell with few random items here and there !Another family mentioned how they were truly let down by sites out of date facilities and how mislead they felt The place looks like somthing out of the early 80s poorly maintained horrible out of date toilets and showers. Reception was not a welcoming place to be looked more like a funeral directors and a time warp.never seen anything like it . Took so long to even check in! To top it all off everyone’s pitch is on top of each other . No privacy , rammed into any space there is was very unpleasant felt like we were in someone’s way all the time and intimidated. They pack you in like beans in a can! Not a nice place to relax !

Supérette pratique, un véritable plus d'avoir le pain et les viennoiseries sur place.
Piscine sympa, avec surveillant bienveillant.

Disliked Un peu déçus de l'accueil et peu d'information lors de notre arrivée, on ne savait même pas le numéro de notre emplacement.
Manque un plan sur le livret d'accueil et manque info de prendre un adaptateur pour se brancher à l'électricité (ou pas vu)
Dommage que le petit resto ne prend pas plus de chèque vacances

Local attractions

With its coastal habitats, inland seas and mudflats, the Parc Naturel Marin de l’Estuaire de la Gironde (10 minutes’ walk) provides shelter to a large number of migratory birds, including ducks and geese. If you’re lucky, you might also be able to spot bottlenose and common dolphins, plus grey seals. Sitting on a small island in the middle of the Gironde estuary, the Cordouan Lighthouse can be accessed only by boat from either Royan (15 minutes’ drive) or Le Verdon-sur-Mer (50 minutes). Climb the 301 steps to the top of this elegant 17th-century beacon (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to take in far-reaching views of the coastline. Zoo La Palmyre (25 minutes) is home to hundreds of animals – from big cats to primates, and from crocodiles to birds like colourful flamingoes and macaws. There are shows featuring sea lions and bird displays, or you can feed zoo-supplied corn to the resident giraffes and zebras.
