What a sweet – and seaside – spot. Set over six hectares, Camping La Bolée d'Air is a couple of kilometres from the Vendée coastal village of St Vincent sur Jard: drive there in a mere minute or two, or venture through a pine forest to reach the sea by pedal or promenading.
As you'll know if you've been sensible enough to have previously holidayed around the Vendée coast, this is a fab part of France, made up of sandy beaches, cooling pine forest and seaside villages galore; the likes of Longeville-sur-Mer, Jard-sur-mer and Talmont-Saint-Hilaire are all a cinch to get to from here, and spectacular Les Sables d'Olonne is an easy 40 minutes' drive west. (It should also be pointed out that historical theme park Puy du Fou is just over an hour away...)
First-rate facilities await for you and les enfants back at base, with a summer outdoor pool, waterslide and paddling pool to keep all ages suitably damp at all times, as well as stacks of sporty options to keep you all (slightly) active: tennis, miniature golf, a sports court and a pétanque court are all to hand (borrow boules at the bar). An indoor pool with sauna and Jacuzzi can take things down a notch again if you're then a tad tired.
Kids have a playground and a games room to expend energy at, and July and August activities to get stuck into too, run for all ages by the Camping La Bolée d'Air team.

Route directions
From La Roche sur Yon take the D747 to La Tranche sur Mer and then Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits. Continue towards Jard sur Mer, and take the right turn onto the D19 to Saint-Hilaire-la-Forêt via Avrillé. Go through Saint-Hilaire and at the main junction at the end of the village follow directions to St Vincent. When you reach the main church in St Vincent, take the left to Longeville. The site is signposted on this road.

Local attractions
The pretty seaside town of Saint Vincent sur Jard is within easy reach, about half an hour's wander if you're hoofing it rather than driving. Head here for a sandy beach, hikes around the rocky coastline, moseys around the market and – how splendid – sampling Vendée oysters on the seafront.
A couple of kilometres from there, Jard-sur-Mer is another scenic spot with more golden beach, and decent fishing for specimens such as mullet and bream. Leaving town, hike through the surrounding countryside and along the Goluet river to come across some of the region's dolmens and menhirs, or venture out on the Vendée cycling trails through the pine forest.
For a city day, Nantes is an hour and 20 minutes' drive north.
