Tucked away in leafy Pays de la Loire countryside on the outskirts of Soulgé-sur-Ouette village, Camping Naturiste Mayenne Nature opened in the 1960s and is still going strong. No wonder, as it’s a relaxed and welcoming naturist site where families can learn to live in harmony with the environment through communal nudity. There’s lots for active guests to do on this three hectares of land – go fishing, stroll in the cool of the woods, play games from volleyball and badminton to table tennis or pétanque, and then freshen up with a few laps of the pool. Likewise, the kids can keep themselves busy with games, swings and a bounce around on the trampoline. Equally well, anyone who prefers to snooze in the sun, listen to birdsong or enjoy a leisurely picnic at benches beneath the trees is catered for too. Food-wise, occasional fast-food trucks roll up on site – and you can also use the communal barbecues, fridge and microwave free of charge. Venture out into Soulgé-sur-Ouette (five minutes’ drive) for anything else you need, from bread and pastries to bars and restaurants serving well-priced child-friendly dishes. Need a stock up? Head for the supermarkets in Bonchamp-lès-Laval (10 minutes). Facilities-wise, the woodland pitches are shaded or partially shaded under mature trees (hook-ups are available), the showers are fully accessible, and there’s a TV for family downtime in the shared chill-out room.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Loved the laidback feeling of this site, excellent swimming pool and facilities always clean and well maintained. The people we met who manage the site are lovely and helpful. There are nice walks for our dog through the woods and into the local village.

Powered grass campsite

Liked My Partner and I stayed at the campsite for 3 nights during particulary hot days in July this year and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The swimming pool was just the thing to keep cool and the rural atmosphere of the campsite made for a very relaxing break. The owner was very helpful/kind and the facilities were excellent. We will certainly returning on our next trip through France. Best Rob and Rod

Powered grass campsite

Liked Pool was beautifully clean. Could be good if there were a few more sun loungers around the sides. Lovely welcome from the people at Reception and I was shown around the whole site on arrival. Toilets and showers are in a large A-frame building and they are always spotless. Free WiFi was very useful.

Disliked Signage for Mayenne Nature appears 1.2km along the road and my sat nav took me there. It is clearly a farm and not the campsite. I was politely directed to go "left and left again" by a lady at the house. But why have the signage and sat nav not been corrected?

Culture abounds in this rural corner of the Pays de la Loire. Set on the banks of the River Mayenne, Laval (20 minutes’ drive) has one medieval and one Renaissance castle to discover, plus giant sequoia trees in the waterside Jardin de la Perrine and contemporary art in the Musée d’Art Naïf.
