  • Glamping site on the edge of the medieval village of Sainte-Suzanne
  • A 15-minute walk from Château de Sainte-Suzanne
  • A couple of hundred metres from the Erve river
A glamping site on the edge of a medieval village… within simple strolling distance of a medieval château… sound splendid? Get yourself along to Glamping Sainte-Suzanne: it's on the edge of the Pays de la Loire village of Sainte-Suzanne, with its well-preserved and restored château about 15 minutes' walk away. This green and peaceful place is also a few hundred metres from the Erve river for hours of paddling and fishing, and is surrounded by woodland with hiking trails and bike paths, several of which are easily accessed from the site. Other activities nearby include horse riding, climbing and biking in the Tyrolean forest, about 15 minutes' drive away, or museum days at Le Mans half an hour east. Tours, Angers and Rennes are all reachable within an hour and a half. Facilities on site include a playground and a pétanque court, along with modern amenities including a toilet block with showers and disabled access. Within 50 metres of the site is a heated outdoor pool (open in July and August every day except Monday), with a waterslide, lifeguard supervision and free admission for glamping guests.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Incredibly helpful and friendly. The village shops too. I was sad on leaving that I couldn’t stay longer. I was lucky to be near the office and circulation so there was an energy and buzz.

Disliked That’s difficult. The pitches were earthy rather than grass. I do like grass.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review! We're delighted that you had a pleasant stay and that you appreciated the welcome and the atmosphere of the campsite and the village.

Regarding your comment about the pitches, you're absolutely right: usually very green, they suffered greatly this year from the drought and the repeated visits of vacationers during the summer. We hope that nature will soon return to its usual colors for everyone's comfort.

We look forward to welcoming you again for a future stay, and why not a longer one this time?

2 bedroom safari tent (four person)

Liked We're just back after a fantastic week in the safari tent for 4 people. It's a small site which we loved with lots of space around each tent. The owners are lovely and helpful. The small playground was great for the kids and the use of the pool next door any time was great. They serve amazing pizzas, delivered to your door. 5-10 min walk in to the village. Tent itself is great, kids bunk bed room tiny but absolutely fine. Lots of storage, well equipped, huge terrace. Shower excellent! Would highly recommend

Disliked Crockery was bit limited, 4 of everything meant no extra plates/cutlery for serving etc.
Tent is hot in heat and cold when cooler, so pack for both!
No free Wi-Fi, not essential but felt a bit mean to charge for this

From the manager: Thank you very much for your feedback!
We're delighted that you had a wonderful week at our Tent Lodges and that you enjoyed the location, the playground, the pool, and our warm welcome.
Plates and cutlery are limited to the number of people allowed in the accommodation. Regarding Wi-Fi, we aim to encourage a relaxing vacation; however, we've taken note of your feedback.
We look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing, nature-filled stay!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Eco friendly site, quiet respectful guests when we stayed. Free access to municipal pool is great. 10 min walk to the beautiful village.

Disliked Toilet paper frequently stuck or absent

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review! We're delighted that you appreciated the campsite's calm and respectful atmosphere, our eco-friendly approach, and the free access to the communal pool. Our proximity to the medieval town is a real plus!

Regarding toilet paper, it is, of course, provided free of charge, and we check the restrooms three times a day. During busy periods, it may run out more quickly, although we do our best to ensure everything remains available and comfortable for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing, nature-filled stay!

The hosts where extremely inviting, lots of love and care given.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Amazing site, clean, quiet and situated in a lovely little town. Plenty of trail walks to explore the medieval town. Great size pool that is shared between a couple of sites.

Disliked Not much other than the pool for the children, the pool opening times are short and closes for lunch. When you have two children that love the pool it makes it difficult.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We're delighted that you enjoyed the peaceful setting and cleanliness of our campsite, as well as the beauty of our medieval village and its hiking trails.

Regarding the pool hours, we completely understand that this can be a little frustrating with energetic children, but it also allows you to enjoy naps and lie-ins 😉. See you soon!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked The location. The small site is very well presented, and the staff are lovely. Motorhome pitch was a great size. The toilet block was always spotless.

Disliked The pull cord for the shower, I ended up using the disabled shower when unoccupied.
The drinking water tap is located right next to the chemical waste disposal toilet.
For hygiene reasons I’d move it somewhere else, immediately.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review!
We're delighted that you enjoyed the location, the size of your pitch, and the cleanliness of the restrooms. Regarding the shower chain, we understand that it may not be suitable for everyone, which is why another system is available.
Regarding drinking water: even if a tap is located near the waste disposal point, it's important to note that drinking water is also available in the dishwashing area.
Thank you again for your constructive comments and your trust. We look forward to welcoming you again!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked We have stayed at camp sites recommended by Pitchup for several years and have always found the sites to be excellent. The descriptions given on the Pitchup web site are always accurate and give information about the sites facilities, which is just what we need.
Our 2 night stay at Glamping Sainte Suzanne, was just lovely, with staff being helpful and keen to please at all times. The site is operated by a young couple who work hard to please and this is reflected in the atmosphere around the camp.
The site has shared access to a nearby outdoor leisure pool, which is a great boon.
The facilities are typical of campsites in France and are really clean and well looked after.
The location suited our holiday plans and was within a bike ride of where we were able to watch a stage of the Tour de France which passed through the nearby town of Laval.
As usual, we will be booking with Pitchup next year to reserve sites which are near the planned route of the Tour de France, which is easy to do using the search facility of the website

Disliked nothing to dislike

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback! We're delighted that you enjoyed your two-night stay at Glamping Sainte-Suzanne, and that you appreciated the ambiance of the site, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the access to the outdoor pool. We look forward to seeing you again!

Local attractions

Famed for its successful resistance against William the Conqueror (not many folk managed to do that), the medieval fortress of Château de Sainte-Suzanne is a fine place to visit for all ages, with ramparts to roam around and a full programme of events including concerts and kids' activities. Guided tours are available, as are audio tours in English. As well as the village and château, the site's also within walking distance (three and a half kilometres) of the Dolmen des Erves megalithic site, the oldest listed monument in the Mayenne region. If this doesn't entice your small explorers, take them along to the horse riding centre 10 kilometres away, or to let off steam at the many leisurely options at Sillé-le-Guillaume (30 minutes): watersports, pony rides, minature golf and tiny trains are all on offer. Speed along to Le Mans after that, for a look at the Bugatti circuit, the red-painted houses including the Maison du Pilier Rouge on Grand Rue, and if you're here in July or August, the spectacular Le Mans light show in the Old Town.
