A serene and short drive from world-famed Lourdes, in a green and scenic setting at the foot of the Pyrenees… peaceful times are yours for the picking at welcoming and friendly Camping d'Arrouach. The biggest draw in this Hautes-Pyrénées setting is of course the pilgrimage site of Lourdes five minutes' drive away, a French tourist destination eclipsed only by Paris in the number of people who flock there each year (over six million, if you were pondering). But these mountainous surrounds have outdoor options and excursions for all tastes to get active at: leaf through the tourist information leaflets on site and the maps of walking and cycling trails, or ask the team to contact mountain guides to take you out on a trip, picking you up at the site. And after that? Camping d'Arrouach is well kitted out for less busy days too, whether you've tottered back somewhat tired after a day hiking the mountains, or have joined the throng at Lourdes (for it really can get rather busy there). Start off with a dip in the heated pool (open from mid-May to mid-October), grab a poolside lounger and enjoy the mountain views, or take some time to unwind in the infrared sauna. After that, wander along fully refreshed to the bistro, which has a tempting menu of pizzas and burgers as well as local dishes. It's also got a good range of drinks and hosts regular themed meals. There's also a meeting room and terrace with tables, for games and eats on less sunny days, and a communal barbecue area with picnic tables for dinner out of doors. The site reception sells all sorts of bits and bobs such as local produce, drinks, postcards and bread and pastries in the morning.

Liked Location was perfect for our holiday, site was clean and the pool was much needed on the hot days.
You can order bread from the local bakery for the next morning and food in the bistro was great. Appreciate the owners speaking English as our French is lacking

Disliked I accept that it is a busy season and that it can be pretty exhausting, I would have like the warm welcome to last, this didn’t bother us as we spent a lot of our time out of the site exploring the local area.

We could connect to the WiFi but it would drop pretty often.

Liked Ontvangst en hulp bij mijn vragen.
Gemoedelijke camping, klein maar verder heerlijk zwembadn

Disliked Lawaai van bedrijf aangrenzend aan de camping.
Ik mis een afvalbak bij de afwasbare om etensresten weg te gooien.
Het brood is van matige kwaliteit, ging na de eerste dag naar de bakker in Lourdes.

The staff were very helpful and polite, a real credit to the location

Disliked I selected the wrong entrance through the SATNAV that was closed and had to walk up a big hill in my bike gear. A small issue that was sorted later.

Disliked Toilet block was clean but not to best standard. Soap was not topped up for at least 2 days during our stay. Lights in toilet block could be dimmed at night.

Liked Shower and toilets spotless. Bistro was good but food limited to pizza when we were there. Pool clean with plenty subbed and parasols.

Disliked Check in is up until 7pm and not 8 as per website and welcome email. The grey water disposal is in a very difficult place to manoeuvre into. There is a very large tree that brushes onto your van and a plant pot that should be moved to give more room to move.
For info-Buses into Lourdes stop just after 6pm and last one back is 7pm

Liked One of the best sites we stayed at over the past two weeks. Location was great, facilities were good. The pool and bistro were really lovely added benefit.

Liked Kleiner, familiärer Platz mit besonders freundlichem Personal. Sauber und gepflegt. Mit einem kleinen Marsch von 45 Minuten ist die Grotte st. Bernadette gut erreichbar. Gerne kommen wir wieder.

Liked Loved the location and the small campsite. The pool was great too. Nice and long. Easy access into the Pyrenees and all the neighbouring towns. Would stay again

Disliked Proximity to the farmyard meant a lot of flies which were annoying. Our pitch didn't have much shade but that was luck rather than judgement. They were not very private of that's what you like. Showers lacked space to sit down and to keep towel dry. The accessible shower was better but the showerhead was broken

Lourdes is the third most-visited Catholic pilgrimage destination in the world, after Rome and the Holy Land: the highlight is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, set around the Lourdes grotto with the Béout, Petit Jeri and Grand Jer peaks rising up behind. If this isn't your bag, heaps of hiking and cycling can be had in the surrounding mountains, on trails of all lengths and for most levels. Around Lourdes, take the Les Gaves greenway cycle route from Lourdes to Pierrefitte; the local stretch of the Piémont Trail or GR 78, or the Henry IV trail, linking Lourdes to Pau. A must while you're here is the funicular railway trip to the summit of the famed Pic du Jer, 950 metres up with spectacular views of the countryside below (you'll see the peak from Lourdes after dark, as its big cross is lit up once night falls). Take the walking trail at the summit to the observatory for those splendid views, stretching out over Lourdes, Tarbes, Pau, the Argelès Gazost valley and the peaks of the Pyrenees.
