It's free, quick and easy!
- Tiny tipi site with spectacular views over the Cirque de Gavarnie
- Within easy reach of Gavarnie ski resort
- A short drive to outdoor pool, climbing, ice skating and more in Gèdre
A scenic mountain locale, peace and quiet and immaculately kept facilities are what’s up for grabs at this cracking tipi site, in the Hautes-Pyrénées department of south-western France.
The best bit about this postcardworthy place has got to be its vista across to the UNESCO-listed Cirque de Gavarnie – and as well as this, there’s more than plenty to please yourself with off site too: it's a handy four kilometres to Gèdre and its outdoor pool, plus ice rink, tennis courts, toboggan run and year-round climbing areas. You can also embark on spectacular mountain promenades direct from base, such as the three-kilometre hike via the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route to the Plateau de Saugué and its views of the strikingly scenic Cirque de Gavarnie.
Communal facilities in the main building at Tipis Indiens include a large and well-equipped kitchen as well a lounge with fireplace and free wifi. A spacious play area is outdoors, and there are resident cats, goats and sheep to greet and coo over.
The spotless and swish amenities at the park include separate toilets and two bathrooms.

Local attractions
As befits a mountain spot such as this, there are also several snowy and icy activities to get involved in over in Gèdre, such as a toboggan luge for swooshing down and an ice rink for speeding (or staggering) round. Climbers are well catered to round here too, with routes that are scaleable during any season.
Take the kids to Gavarnie a short drive away for donkey rides, or hack around on horseback for a bit; there’s also a free bus service that runs between Gèdre, Gavarnie, the historic village of Luz-Saint-Sauveur and the local ski resort in season, for yet more winter sports in the region.
Several UNESCO World Heritage Sites are around too: talk to the friendly team at Tipis Indiens about booking excursions to Barrage des Gloriettes, Héas, Roland's Breach and the Cirque de Troumouse, all within an easy 19 kilometres.
Other must-sees and dos that come highly recommended by the Tipis team include visits to the Gavarnie Falls and the spa town of Cauterets; bungee jumping, canyoning, hiking and skiing in the village of Barèges; and trips out to see furry friends over at Pyrénées Animal Park, all within 40 kilometres of the site.
