  • Shaded grass pitches by the river Arbas in Mane village, Haute-Garonne
  • Salies-du-Salat 10 minutes’ drive; Toulouse an hour away
  • Outdoor pool, pétanque and miniature golf; playground; launderette
Staying at Complexe Touristique de La Justale, in the village of Mane, in the Haute-Garonne department, puts you in a pretty privileged position. From here you’ll be able to explore the spectacular Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park (10 minutes’ drive), and you’ll also be within an hour’s drive of neighbouring Spain. So that’s two countries for the price of one (three if you include Andorra, though that’s a little farther away – about two and a half hours by car). As well as electric grass pitches shaded by tall trees, La Justale has an outdoor pool and a playground, plus two hectares of green spaces with designated areas for activities ranging from the relatively chilled (pétanque and miniature golf) to the more active (volleyball). Within a five-minute walk of the site there's also a football pitch, a couple of tennis courts and an equestrian centre. In other words, plenty to keep the entire family entertained during your sojourn in southwestern France. And if there’s an angling enthusiast in your party, they can fish for brown trout in the nearby river Arbas. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block (with facilities for disabled guests), a launderette and a communal freezer. There’s a grocery store in the village (a five-minute walk), a supermarket and a couple of eateries along the D117 (five minutes’ drive), and more shops and dining options in Salies-du-Salat (10 minutes), a pretty spa resort with a casino.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Very welcoming host, a lovely big campsite with plenty of large pitches surrounded with thick hedgerows and trees perfectly shading each one. Clean toilet block and plenty of room for washing up food utensils. Great views around and was a very peaceful environment. Affordable too.
Definitely recommend!

Local attractions

For a relaxed nature walk with views of the Pyrenees, head to Lac de Touille (five minutes’ drive), just across the river Salat. A redeveloped gravel pit, the reservoir is now a popular spot for wildlife spotting, picnicking and fishing (for which you’ll need a permit). Your first glimpse of Château de Mauvezin (45 minutes) will come as you drive along the D938 en route to this 12th-century fortress on a rocky outcrop. While you take in splendid mountain views, the kids might prefer to explore the castle courtyard, with displays of catapults and hanging prisoner cages, or head inside to check out the collection of medieval weapons. Toulouse (an hour) is known for the Romanesque Basilique Saint-Sernin, with an imposing stone interior and an elegant bell tower. Museums cover a range of subjects, from fine arts (Musée Paul-Dupuy) to modern history (Musée départemental de la Résistance et de la Déportation). At sunset, sit on the steps on Place Saint-Pierre for views of the river Garonne.
