Pitch by the lake

  • Friendly lakeside site with spectacular views over the Arédien hills
  • A 10-minute walk from Saint-Germain-les-Belles
  • Fish (March to September) for carp, trout, pike and roach; swimming
Let your hair down lakeside at Camping de Montréal, where your time can be spent swimming and admiring the views over the Arédien hills. It's just 10 minutes' walk away from Saint-Germain-les-Belles, where there are restaurants for a long-drawn-out dinner or a takeaway before trotting back to your pitch. Choose a suitable spot to stretch out and unwind – there are plenty of such spots, with the added bonus of some rather fab views over the Lac de Montréal and to the hills behind. Fishing is available between March and September, so perhaps you could muster up enough energy to cast a rod into the lake and attempt to entice some trout, roach, pike or carp to take a bite (fishing licences are needed but they can be bought on site). If you’re feeling rather more active, you could slip into the lake’s waters for a swim or seek out more swimming at the open-air pool. Out of the water, tennis, basketball, volleyball and a playground are all on site too.

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked View of the lake. Pitches well screened. Friendly staff. Good on-site restaurant. Lovely clean beach at the lake and enjoyed swimming. Clean facilities. Good little supermarket a 10 min walk. Good wi-fi which was free. Lovely path around lake for dog walks.

Disliked Not a problem, but if the 3 old empty caravans etc were removed from this site would be even lovelier.

Lovely site, staff were great both on reception & restaurant

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked A very warm welcome when we arrived. Attractive site with clean, warm and well-maintained facilities. Level pitches if a good size with hedges between. Really peaceful overnight with just the sound of a nightingale singing - bliss!

Fresh bread available to order.

Excellent value for money!

Power optional grass campsite (lake view)

Liked The site was clean tidy, showers were very hot although unisex, which didn't bother us but may put some people off. Restaurant was closed due to out of season and having renovations ready for the summer season, but we knew this when we booked. Pitches were fair size, quiet and peaceful. Owners very friendly and welcoming.

Disliked We went here for fishing, although not run by the camp as we thought when we booked. Lake looked lovely, but lots of dead fish, the locals walk their dogs and don't clean up the mess, so for thes reason we cut our losses and left early. But again no fault to the site.

Excellent camping 🏕️ très naturel.

Local attractions

The Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park is the place for rural ramblings, half an hour's drive away. Walk to a waterfall, take one of the themed discovery walks, rent mountain bikes or head to Eymoutiers to hire canoes or kayaks for trips on the Vienne river. Around half an hour away is Reynou zoo park, where five kilometres of paths run through a 100-hectare site, giving you the chance to see animals such as giraffes and lions up close, all in the grounds of a 19th-century château. For a château of a different variety, take the half-hour drive to Château de Châlucet, a medieval pile at the top of a hill (take decent shoes for the hike up). Also around half an hour’s drive from the site is the town of Limoges, famed for its porcelain production – you can still visit porcelain shops here as well as seeing an ancient kiln next to the riverside path.
