It's free, quick and easy!
- Eco-friendly site just off the D901, five minutes from Bussière-Galant
- On the edge of the Perigord Limousin Regional Natural Park
- Playground, chlorine-free pool and organic meals and wine
Ever considered a sustainable site? Even if Vodatent at Camping La Jaurie’s eco-friendly everyday essentials (wind-powered electrics and solar-heated water among them) don’t sway you, it’s possible that the organic dinners and homemade vino may make this place a winner.
Foodie highlight of the week happens on a Friday, when a four-course meal (all organic and/or locally-produced) is served up at a sociable communal table, but there are plenty of tasty treats around on other days too: pizzas from the wood-fired oven on high-season Tuesdays and meals available to order throughout the week. Cooking facilities are provided in the safari tents (handily set up on wheels so you can choose to cook indoors or in the open) and there’s often a small selection of organic produce available to buy on site.
There’s much more to this site than merely its eco aspects though: there’s also its cracking setting, views over farmland, forest, river and walnut orchard not giving away its location just off the D901 for easy ins and outs (château visits, village pottering and vélorail rides among the days out you may choose).
And there’s also its family-friendly collection of facilities, including an open-air swimming pool (with saline water rather than chlorine – excellent for sensitive skins), a playground, trampolines, a communal firepit and an indoor space for wet-weather games.

Local attractions
Take a hike: there are several trails that start from the site (including kid-friendly ones with treasures to seek along the way), or you can explore further by heading into the Perigord Limousin Regional Natural Park, a few minutes away. For an easier way to get about, the site organises donkey rides into the surrounding countryside a couple of times a week.
Or take to the lake – Espace Hermeline is a five-minute drive away and has a pleasingly spacious beach area with safe swimming and small boats to paddle, plus plenty of other fun stuff including miniature golf, forest trails and a zipline. It’s also the place to join a vélorail ride, pedalling your way along an old railway line through the woods.
And what a cluster of castles there is to visit nearby, too. If you like a grand building you’ll be wanting to take a wander around Château de Montbrun or Chateau de Jumilhac; Chateau de Lastours and Château de Châlus-Chabrol are top choices if you’re more of an atmospheric ruins type. All are within a 20-minute drive of the site.
