- Rural site in an arboretum just outside the village of Chamberet
- Stargazing spot in the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park
- Covered heated pool, sauna and bar; meals and breakfast on request
If you’re in search of some peace and quiet, a stay in an arboretum seems like a sensible bet, non? You can do that in style at Le Village des Monédières, a rural Limousin glamping site in the splendid surrounds of the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park.
This gorgeous location means being surrounded by trees galore, with a small lake nearby too adding to the attractions for the local wildlife (don't fret if you don't spot any wild critters – there are other creatures to coo over at the mini farm area). With the territory also comes easy access to hikes, horse riding, canoeing and treetop trails and a pleasing lack of light pollution for some excellent stargazing after dark.
Alongside the cosy glamping units are plenty of facilities to boost your rural stay, including a heated covered pool, a sauna to soothe any post-activity muscle aches, and a cosy lounge and bar for refreshing beers. Bikes are available for rent on site, and the wifi stretches across the common areas to help you plot a route.
With all these activities to plot, you’ll be needing plenty of eats: barbecues are permitted on site, and it’s possible to have meal trays and breakfasts delivered if you order ahead. Supplies can be picked up in the small village of Chamberet, 15 minutes’ walk away, where you can also be fed in the various eateries.

Local attractions
Exploring the surrounds can take many forms, so take your pick: there’s a riding centre five minutes’ drive away, and it’s a similarly short drive to the Montoz’Arbres adventure park where you can swing through the treetops. Back down at ground level, it’s a half-hour drive to Uzerche for canoe trips on the Vézère river and just under an hour to Lac de Vassivière for a beach and watersports.
For a closer examination of what goes on at ground level, head to La Cité des Insectes (half an hour’s drive), which has a critter collection of around 15,000 for kids to see and handle (and even eat, if they’re feeling really brave). If you’re not into bugs, perhaps aim instead for the smart surrounds of Cecile Sabourdy Museum and Gardens (40 minutes) or Château de Châlucet (45 minutes).
To put gentle urban ambles on the schedule, a drive of just under an hour can get you to medieval Brive-la-Gaillarde or lovely Limoges to meet porcelain makers, tour the National Porcelain Museum and admire the cathedral and half-timbered buildings.
