If you’re vexing yourself over whether to have a sojourn in Spain or a fortnight in France this year, voyage to both with a trip to Camping La Coscolleda in the Pyréneés-Orientales, a 25-minute drive from the border between these two cracking countries. This site’s on the outskirts of the quiet town of Sorède, a 10-minute walk from the amenities in the centre – including boulangeries and a tourist info office – and at the foot of the Albères Massif. It’s also an easy 15-minute drive to the buff beaches of Argelès-sur-Mer on France’s Mediterranean coast. Splash in the sea over there or swim back on site – the park has a pool for all your dipping needs and a section of the Tassio river is on the grounds for cooling your feet and watching the local wildlife. Rest up riverside at this peaceful place or find shade under the leafy trees on the terrace beside the pool's snack bar – if you’re feeling active the site’s also connected to a greenway leading to the Pyrenees for hikes. From the manager: merci pour votre retour sur votre séjour chez nous, nous sommes un peu surpris de votre note car vous paraissiez très contents de vos vacances chez nous. En période de sécheresse nous n'avons effectivement pas d'herbe, vous vivez en Espagne donc je pense que chez vous c'est la même chose. Nos emplacements vont de 80 à 140m² et séparé par des arbres ou des haies , la proximité des emplacements est normale en camping les parcelles sont cote à cote.

Un snack où j'ai eu l'occasion de déguster leurs pizzas fait maison un régal.

Liked This site is amazing. It’s in an awesome setting and hosted by great people. Extremely clean and tidy and there’s a great vibe around the site. The snack and bar area is great with good beer and snacks. My boys adored the waffles prices are very reasonable.

Assuming you have a car there are loads of beaches within 20-30 mins drive. We mainly snorkelled and fished but there are a host of activities available to do, jet skis, parasending etc. Argeles offers bustling nightlife near the beach with shops, bars and restaurants. Perpignan isn’t too far either and we had a great time there hiring Pony electric scooters.

Yes, it’s a long drive from the UK but if like me you don’t mind driving, which in France is very quick tbf, great roads allow you to cover ground fast. South of France on the Med rocks and this campsite is a great way to explore it!

Liked Camping très bien implanté proche du bourg de Sorede et au pied des montagnes, proche de plusieurs sentiers de randonnées et à 10 minutes de la mer.

Nous y avons passé 2 semaine en toile de tente avec nos 2 enfants de 6 et 10 ans.

Camping très calme , arboré, avec une jolie piscine et un service au snack au top.

Les propriétaires sont très accueillants, à l'écoute, avec qui on a vraiment apprécié discuter.

Les enfants se sont fait plein de copains,
et nous les parents avons très apprécié notre séjour,
on recommande 👍🏻

Local attractions

Sandwiched between the mountains and the coast, this site’s ace for adventuring. Head to Argelès-sur-Mer (15 minutes’ drive) for seaside saunters – it has a promenade facing the water and a long beach to potter along – before investigating the sights of the old town. Make a foray to the 14th-century Notre-Dame del Prat Church for stonking views from its bell tower, then voyage to Valmy Park, just outside town (15 minutes) to trace the trails towards a 19th-century castle. After that, swoop back to the seaside to the town of Collioure for yet more epic views from the medieval Château Royal de Collioure, which looks out over the coast. Weave a smidgen of culture into your break by stopping by the Modern Art Museum to nosey at Matisse paintings and head to the hilltop Fort St Elme for its displays of medieval weapons, too. Away from the water, a trip to The Turtle Valley (10 minutes) will introduce you to more than 500 turtles and tortoises hailing from five continents, along with a range of reptiles and small mammals.
