It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful shaded site on the banks of the Lot river in Banassac
- Gorges du Tarn and Cevennes National Park within 45 minutes' drive
- Shops and restaurants 10 minutes' walk away
Planning hols among châteaux and stunning scenery, with plenty to explore and loads to keep you busy on site days? Paddle along to Camping de La Mothe, a peaceful family-friendly site on the banks of the Lot where’s there’s… well, rather a lot to do.
The Languedoc- Roussillon site is a 15-minute saunter from the shops and restaurants of Banassac, and handily placed for access to the A75. This makes it not only a convenient stopover for anyone travelling on the north-south motorway, but a top base for days out and about at nearby animal parks, on whitewater rafting trips in the spectacular Gorges du Tarn or on hikes in Cevennes National Park.
Not that that much travel is necessary – days lounging around on site will never be boring as there’s an outdoor pool for cooling swims, pétanque to keep competitive spirits up, a playground for the kids, and a games room and TV room when that French sun becomes too much.
Switch off completely by chilling out under a tree in the spacious park, getting a barbecue fired up for slow-burn dinners, or wandering along to the bar and snack bar for eats and drinks when a day off from cooking becomes a necessity.

Local attractions
There are no calories on les hols, right? Good news then: the site’s a five-minute walk from Malakoff & Co chocolate factory, where there are tours and tastings during the week. The tours are only given in French, but it might be worth it anyway for non-French speakers, if only for the smell…
Anyone feeling the need to get moving after choccing down is well placed here. As well as being just 15 minutes from Cevennes National Park, the site’s also within 35 minutes of the UNESCO-listed Grands Causses Natural Regional Park, where active types can canoe, climb, cave and paraglide to heart’s content (and the less active can opt for a microlight flight instead).
This is a particularly gorgeous part of France, so be sure to spend as much time out in it as possible. Head to Creissels (40 minutes away) to hop on a boat trip beneath the Millau Viaduct (the highest bridge in the world); visit the rock formations and arches at the spectacular Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux, an hour away; and get snap happy at the stunning Cirque de Navacelles an hour and a half from base.
Stick with nature by getting to know it, big and small: start with predators at the Gévaudan wolf park (20 minutes), before travelling a little further afield to meet the insects at Micropolis and the lizards at the Larzac Reptilarium, both within 45 minutes of the site.
