Need a few stellar shots for your social media? Make sure to pack that camera for your hols at Camping Le Dolium, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the centre of the village of Laudun-L’Ardoise in the Gard region of Languedoc-Roussillon – you surely won’t be disappointed with the quality of your pics around here.
Le Dolium is a prime spot for exploring the history of this part of France: within 40 minutes of the site are the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct, the UNESCO-listed city of Avignon (check out the medieval Pont-Saint-Bénézet, the cathedral, the papal palace and the old centre), and the still-in-use amphitheatre and the Roman temple in Nîmes. For more recent history, travel the 30 minutes to the Musée du Bonbon Haribo (yes, that Haribo..).
Return to the present day on site with a few games of ping pong, some pétanque tournaments or a dip in the pool before getting some munch in: head to the on-site bar-restaurant during the high season, pick up the basic essentials at one of the supermarkets in Laudun-L’Ardoise to look after yourself, or grab a table at one of the many restaurants within 15 minutes' drive.
You’re well looked after at the site for everything else – sanitary blocks are equipped with toilets, showers, laundry bins and crockery trays, and there’s a washing machine-dryer available for guests’ use.

Local attractions
This part of the world might be overflowing with historic sites, but there’s plenty else nearby for those who don’t live and breathe history. You can’t go wrong with a spot of fishing if you’re in search of a peaceful afternoon or two, so bring along your rod and reel and cast a line in the La Tave river on site at Camping Le Dolium.
If you’re of a more active persuasion, paddle over to the Gardon river, where you can clamber into a canoe or kayak, or follow one of the hikes that brings you through vineyards and villages along the gorge. None of this floating your boat? Potter over to Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie to have a poke around the 20 pottery workshops, or tiptoe carefully through La Ferme aux Crocodiles reptile farm so as not to upset any of the inhabitants...
Tipplers are also well served in the area around Le Dolium: to call this wine country might even be an understatement. Get a designated driver on side and head for tours and tastings at Laudun Chusclan, Domaine Pélaquié and Domaine des Maravilhas, all around 10 minutes away, or pop your cork on the dozens of other wineries within 30 minutes of the site.
