  • Family campsite by the beach five minutes' drive from Narbonne-Plage
  • 15 minutes' drive to Gruissan; 55 minutes to Carcassonne
  • Pool with waterslides; games and entertainment; restaurant and shop
With a coastal setting between Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan – the two major seaside resorts on the Aude’s Narbonne coast – Camping La Cote des Roses is a family-friendly park with a pool complex, splash fountains for the kids and direct access to a fine sandy beach. As well as the heated pool, four waterslides, paddling pool with games and the water garden with mushrooms, bucket tree and water jets, there are other ways to keep the family entertained. Try a game of ping pong or pétanque, hire bikes to explore the locality and let toddlers loose in the play areas. In high season there are lots of activities for kids, and after-dark frivolity for all in the shape of karaoke sessions, musical shows and themed nights. All sorts of handy things are on site here: a shop selling beachwear and vital stuff like rubber rings and fishing nets as well as groceries and breakfast pastries, plus a laidback alfresco bar and restaurant with a plentiful supply of snacks and drinks to keep everyone fed and watered. Helpful family-centric services include washing machines and dryers (incurring a small charge), rental of baby equipment and irons – and if you have any further queries, just head for reception, where knowledgeable staff will help you out.

Local attractions

When you’ve tried all the waterslides at the pool, head down to the Mediterranean beach (five minutes’ walk) to have a crack at water sports like land yachting, karting and jetskiing. Inland, you can follow a seafront cycle path from the exit to the campsite, go horse riding in the pine forests or take the kids for paintballing sessions (both five minutes’ drive). For a change of pace, explore the once-important Roman sea port of Narbonne (25 minutes), now snoozing inland on the side of the River Aude. This attractive city has promenades along the Canal de la Robine, a medieval cathedral and the enticing undercover food market at Les Halles – just the place for a lunchtime charcuterie snack and a glass of cold white wine. Another historic treasure in the region is the once-fortified city of Carcassonne (55 minutes). A day trip rewards with a cobbled old town, walks around the ramparts of the sprawling Château Comtal and the spiky facade of the Gothic-era cathedral.

FHU grass and sand campsite

Liked: The area ,it’s close to the beach, pitch size is good. Reception staff friendly and very helpful well equipped campsite. Can’t complain really. If we were French it would have been a perfect holiday destination. One rule for French people others we live and learn we can’t be loved by everyone.

Disliked: French rule on swim wear crazy I think.

FHU grass and sand campsite

Liked: We arrived at 5:30pm. First thing we noticed was the secure gates with security. We parked the car and caravan outside the gates (big parking area). Went into reception and was greeted by friendly staff. We put in our booking that our caravan is 8m (L) x 2.4m (w)twin axle (Elddis Avante 840) + Awning. They gave us pitch 611 which was 16m x 10m with 16amp electric. Reception gave us a welcome pack which contained, Cans of drinks, toilet roll, washing up sponges and a map. Nice touch. We got to our pitch and found it clean. We had a 25m electric lead, however thankfully we also had a 10m electric cable with us. We had to join both together to get electric from the point to the caravan (but 16m pitches you would expect this). The water point was by the toilet/shower block and not at the pitch - not the end of the world. The toilet/shower blocks are unisex which we didn't realise. But surprisingly within the first day this was no longer an issue for us. The shower blocks are also very clean (we read reviews saying they weren't). They are clean. There is some sand on the floor sometimes (But its a sandy campsite next to a beach! and the sand on the floor is a few grains) We saw the cleaners in there multiple times. We will never say no to a campsite for having unisex toilets again now. On site is a takeaway, restaurant/bar and shop. All very friendly! The evening entertainment is amazing (never really enjoyed it before). The pool is a good size - But its a very large campsite. The pool could do with being bigger for the amount of people at the site. Men do have to wear speedo type trunks. (There is a decathlon down the road which sells lots of them). There are 3 life guards around the pool all day. There is a pool security guard also. A lot of people were put off by security guards but we found it all very reassuring. 24-7 security around the site ensuring everyone is safe. The playparks were absolutely brilliant for children and the kids club. A lot of effort had gone into these. There are 4 entrances from the site to the beach. However, you walk along the lagoon to the beach and the beach is also a good walk to the water. Estimated 20 minute walk from our pitch to the where we would set up on the beach. We took a wagon with us to the beach and it was easier to walk through the site and out the main gates and then take the beach entrance that way (the sand is wet). However a 30 minute up the road from the campsite is a much nicer beach with dry sand, that is also where the beach front shops, restaurants etc etc are. However the walk past the lagoon is not horrible or swampy. Its just not a few metres. I think it take 5 minutes to walk from the campsite gate to the beach along the lagoon, but an additional 5 minutes on top to walk from top of the beach down to the water. The campsite is a large site and it is a 15 minute walk from where our pitch was to the pool, shop, bar etc. We found the campsite very pleasant. The only down side to our pitch was no shade. We was there in a record heatwave and we was waking up sweating. We bought a gazebo from the Lidl (10 min drive away) but natural shade would have been better. A few pitches up from us were shaded all day long because of two large trees. There are trees throughout the campsite but some are small and don't offer much shade (Not the campsites fault). Next time we will be better prepared and we also in hindsight should have put our caravan in so it was along the pitch instead of down the pitch. Like I said, its a large site. If you don't like walking then I would recommend taking a bike. There are bike storage places all over the site. You can also hire bikes. We would go again, but we would probably take bikes. Walking everywhere in the 40 degree heat was a little bit too much (However we was there during a record heat wave).

Liked: Nice location ,beach is 20 minute walk . Nice restaurants around the beach and great food stall on beach .

Disliked: Pool is freezing 🥶 Didn't feel welcomed there . They have Pool staff walking around hassling people about there clothing . Supermarket staff (lady )extremely rude especially to kids .Our kids spent €30 on bracelets (buy 3 get one free) The one for free was out of a dirty bag under till and not like the other 3 and she wouldn't even let them choose. When I said why can't they choose she become very aggressive and started shouting to her husband and daughter. Camp smelt of sewage most of the time . We wouldn't go back and left 3 days early..
