There are walks galore around here – and you can either head out on a guided hike or follow trails to places like Cascade L’Alzeau (five minutes' drive) or Bassin de Lampy (20 minutes). The Canal du Midi isn't far off either (20 minutes), or you can seek out châteaux like Les Quatre Châteaux de Lastours (20 minutes). The scenery here is pretty nice – but so are the views underground, as you’ll learn on visits to Grotte de Limousis (35 minutes) and Gouffre Géant de Cabrespine (40 minutes). Back up at surface level, you can swing through the trees at Lac'Cro Parc (25 minutes) or settle for more gentle outings to local vineyards and the ‘book and arts village' of Montolieu (10 minutes). As for bigger days out, perhaps you'd like to visit the gorgeous medieval town of Carcassonne (half an hour), take a canal boat ride through Castres (50 minutes) or see the splendid architecture and Toulouse-Lautrec Museum in Albi (an hour and 20 minutes).
