Folks of an active disposition will surely want to bag themselves a pretty patch of green at Camping Paus’art Déco, which is just 10 minutes’ drive away from the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau in stunning Seine-et-Marne. Around an hour and a half’s drive from central Paris, this dog-friendly site is set in a very green area between Fontainebleau and Moret-sur-Loing surrounded by thick forests, rivers and lakes – so you're in a prime spot for rock climbing, bouldering, cycling, hiking, horse-riding and canoeing if you want to. When it’s time to nurse a cup of coffee or sink your teeth into a baguette, pause at a restaurant or park along the river Loing in Moret-sur-Loing, 15 minutes’ drive away. On site, there are plenty of facilities for the littlies as well as their elders: a playground, pétanque ground, ping pong tables, wifi at reception and toilets. Off site, there are bus stops, a bar and a small convenience shop in Villemer five minutes’ walk away. The train station in Montigny-sur-Loing is also handily a short drive away. That leaves Fontainebleau, 20 minutes’ drive away, where there is a stunning market on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings and a huge castle with horse-drawn carriage rides, canoes and hot-air balloons, as well as a miniature train. The Ile de France Prehistory Museum is 15 minutes’ drive away for a tad more history, and the WAM PARK in La Grande-Paroisse is half an hour’s drive away for a long, long list of outdoor activities such as wakeboarding, watersports and miniature golf.

Liked Good pitches and nice central location. The showers were good and facilities were clean and functional.

Disliked This is an unusual campsite with lots of odd private caravans. This was quite quickly but got noisy at the weekend, when the owners arrived. We did get disturbed by the wildlife at night. Hedgehogs can be so noisy, though we thought it was a positive , the husband did not!

Liked Wir wurden total herzlich aufgenommen. Uns wurde sehr geholfen obwohl wir weitgehends nur Deutsch sprechen.

Wir hatten einen super Stellplatz und fühlten ums sehr wohl. Der Campingplatz ist total süß, putzig, niedlich,familiär.

Wir wären so gerne länger geblieben aber Schule und Arbeit fing wieder an.

Liked Die Unterkunft ist sehr komfortabel und ruhig und einen Besuch wert. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und lieben ihre Arbeit. Die Wasserhähne sind gut verteilt, die Sanitäranlagen sind sauber und für Einzelpersonen oder Familien geeignet. Ich kann es nur empfehlen.

Disliked Es gibt kein Einkaufszentrum in der Nähe, und Paris ist während der Stoßzeiten etwa eineinhalb bis zwei Stunden entfernt.

Pack all your preferred spreads, breads and fruits when you make your way to Grez-sur-Loing (15 minutes’ drive), as it's highly possible you'll want to settle down for a picnic when you clap your eyes on the stunning ponds and riverside. Speaking of the water, the river Loing (10 minutes) takes a winding route past the region's typical towns and villages. By bicycle, you can visit a handful of spots in one day if you keep a good pace. Nemours (15 minutes) on the Loing has a medieval castle with a watchtower and museum and a medieval-themed festival in July. Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne (10 minutes) has a fortified square with city gates and ramparts, Renaissance houses, a theatre and a barley sugar museum for a good bit of history. Here, and in Moret-sur-Loing (15 minutes), you're set to reserve yourself a canoe and take off for an extended paddle along the Loing. Sens (40 minutes) is just a little bit further away from the site, but it's a prime spot for the budding historians among your group, as it has a cathedral and a whole bunch of historic and gourmet spots.
