Two rivers for the price of one. Normandy's Saâne and Vienne rivers encircle the peaceful site of Camping de la Vallée as they wind their way seawards: think salty breezes, big skies and a landscape where country and coast merge… Gentler pursuits on site include pétanque and table football, as well as a play area for smaller guests and a games room for older ones to lurk in. Or you could send the offspring off to go and catch dinner: there are half a dozen ponds around the site, a draw for wildlife and for anglers after sturgeon and perch. You can order takeaway to be delivered from a local pizzeria (no delivery charge) or buy groceries to make meals to eat at the many lakeside picnic tables (burn it off later on the basketball courts or in the fitness area). On the practical side, your stay is made easier by an on-site laundry and a washroom with baths and showers. You can bring your dog and that 'Boss of the Barbecue' apron you got for Christmas, as both are welcome (barbecues, more than novelty aprons…).

Liked A very scenic camping spot with electric hook up right on the lake. We had three very enjoyable days, mostly spent fishing, and my husband caught some huge carp around the 20lb mark. One of our camping neighbours caught a sturgeon weighing about 10lb. We cycled along the nearby cycle route to the lovely town of Luneray with its stunning architecture and then back via a route bordered by fields of barley and linseed. We will definitely return!

Liked Welcome, cleanliness of facilities, although dated and needed a 1 euro token, it was hot and lasted long enough for good shower and hair wash. Pitch was nice size right on the lake, with electric so was ideal for hubby for fishing and me and dog to spectate and be on hand for photos. It was peaceful and had good night's sleep. Nice walk through wooded area to other side of lake, be careful when wet as slippery in areas. Almost everything you need for a remote break although not to far away from shop and town but would need to drive, unless you have other means of transport. We would stay again as we did enjoy our stay.

Disliked Distance from pitch to facilities was a good walk away, not great when raining. Could do with one the other end of the lake.
Laundry area needs update, great price but dryer needs replacing.
Also check dates for annual fishing events, although we were informed and offered another pitch it was after our reservaton so we decided to change plans and cut our stay short by a couple of days.

Liked Ourselves and our frriends, having been delayed 1.5 hours getting off the ferry in Calais, made our way to Camping de la Valee with a minute or two to spare before 7pm and found a warm welcome from our reception. Beautiful site overlooking the lake, great facilities and far too short a stay. We will be back!!

Liked Lakeside pitch. Quiet with the sounds of nature, opportunity to fish on lake

Disliked Didn’t realise we needed a token for the shower (we were aware it was a €1. So tried to put this in the box, unfortunately reception wasn’t open until 9am so make sure you get a token for shower when you check in)

Liked View over the lake, central location to visit the area. Good supplies shop a couple of km to the north. Showers were hot, facilities ok.

Disliked After 24 hours on our pitch the one next door was taken by a large family group. Mainly Dads and kids, it was noisy but ok, then the Dads / Uncles got out the Jack Daniels and started playing music after 23:00 whilst some were night fishing. So we packed the caravan and drove out to the car park to get some sleep before heading off early for breakfast down the road. A bit unlucky on this site.

From the manager: Sorry to hear that. I didn't know this team of fishermen will not sleep and be so noisy. I was told of this in the morning. They actually bothered a lot of people but no one called the management. When some people are noisy at night I go to see them and ask them to stop. This group of fishermen will not be allowed to come again as we like our campsite to be tranquil. But I don't know if it's possible to make one full season without some troubles, sorry again it happened during your stay.

Local attractions

The beach at Quiberville-sur-Mer is your nearest (10 minutes by car) for dipping, lounging and digging big holes. The larger town of Veules-les-Roses (15 minutes) has beetling cliffs and a pebble shore that once drew painters by the cartload. Veules-les-Roses is also a good place to try your hand at windsurfing and sea-kayaking. Fécamp (50 minutes) is the starting point for the Route du Lin (Linen Route) cycle path, taking in history and some of Normandy's finest scenery over an 80-kilometre route, and is also home to Woody Park and its tree climbing and bungee jumping. Hautot-sur-Mer (10 minutes) is one of many local centres for equestrian activities, including guided horseback trails. For a busy port, Dieppe (20 minutes) is remarkably easy on the eye; Saturday markets will thrill/horrify some visitors with buckets of live snails and recognisable bits of boar. On the cliffs above in the Château Musée you can see how Renoir, Pissarro and Sickert painted the town red (and other colours).
