The historic city centre of Belfort, with its café-lined squares and elegant quay along the river Savoureuse, is barely five minutes’ drive or bike ride away – and yet staying at Camping Onlycamp L’Etang des Forges makes guests feel as if they’re completely enveloped by nature. This is doubtless thanks to the site’s three and a half hectares of lush greenery on the shoreline of the L’Etang des Forges – though the spectacular landscapes that surround it also contribute. Camping Onlycamp L’Etang des Forges sits between the foothills of the Vosges, Alsace and Jura mountains of eastern France, which should translate into a pretty decent time for keen hikers (and their dogs), who can explore the woodland walks crossing the Forêt valdoie (five minutes' drive or 45 minutes on foot) or the paths leading up Salbert mountain (20 minutes/an hour and 15 minutes). Those who want to take it a little easier can stick to the lake by the site, which has shaded waterside paths for walks or bike rides (with cycle hire available on site), plus picnic areas and a dog park. Or take a stroll around Belfort, visiting the fortified Old Town and stopping at the market, cathedral and modern art museum. As well as some rather splendid views, this site has an outdoor pool, a shaded playground and a pétanque court. Teenagers not so keen on physical activity might find their way to the TV room or the games room instead. The on-site restaurant serves local specialities, and there are more dining options in the centre of Belfort. Supermarkets and other food shops are within walking distance for those who’d like to get a barbecue or picnic going instead.

Liked Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Mitarbeiter des Campingplatzes waren sehr freundlich und zu jederzeit standen sie uns mit Rat zur Verfügung. Die Umgebung war sehr abwechslungsreich. Wir waren so begeistert, dass der Urlaub hier nicht der letzte war.

Disliked Ehrlich gesagt fällt mir jetzt gar nichts dazu ein.

Liked Zeer ruime plaatsen, mochten zelf plaats uitkiezen.vriendelijke ontvangst. Electriciteit en water dichtbij de plaatsen. Warm water om af te wassen echter niet in de douches.

Disliked Geen Wi-Fi, in deze tijden is toch onmogelijk.Nog veel werk op de camping zelf, spijtig als je weet dat je rond de paasperiode opengaat en in de maand mei passeert.
Dat zou hetzelfde zijn als je in een restaurant gaat eten en de keuken moet nog geïnstalleerd worden. Wel een beetje spijtig.

Liked Sehr freundliches und Hilfsbereitschaft Personal an der Rezeption, wo es auch guten Kaffee gab. Die Stellplätze waren sehr groß und boten Sonne und Schatten. Der Platz und die Sanitäranlagen waren sehr sauber...zu jeder Tageszeit dabei es heißes Wasser. Am Etang gab es gut ausgeschilderte Wanderwege. Die Busanbindung nach Belfort ist sehr gut.

Liked There was a warm and friendly greeting from I would imagine were the owners who I never saw again afterwards.
The site appeared well maintained and there was a great looking swimming pool.
The pitch was level and was generous in size.
Although the location was in a rural area there was a lake next to it.

Disliked When I went to the dining area it wasn’t at all clear what to do, after a minute or two I identified someone I thought was a member of staff and asked if he spoke English, he directed me to the man behind the counter who directed me back to him. After utter confusion a camper who spoke English and French helped out and I was able to buy the world’s smallest pizza and red wine.

The toilets don’t have seats which although very French still baffles me if you are older, infirm or have bad aim, if you know what I mean, all of and not just the shower marked as cold are cold and I mean ice cold, this was a quick and intense experience.
There are no bins, but plenty of compost bins, which are infested by flys, and other insects which probably explain the numerous bits I got during the night all in the name of eco.

Regarding your confusion at the snack bar, you simply needed to read the menu in English, where everything is clearly explained: orders are placed with the server (no restaurant will ask you to order from the chef...). Even though our server does not speak perfect English, there has never been a problem with communication with our other foreign guests, who are perhaps more tolerant than you in this regard.
As for your mobility issues in the shower block, you could have asked us for access to the toilets for people with reduced mobility, which would have been more comfortable for you... As for the freezing shower, you must have used the only shower in the bathrooms that provides cold water.
We will not add anything about compost, since it is the very principle of compost to find insects in it.
