  • Small, peaceful family site around a house in the Jura Mountains
  • A 10-minute drive from Poligny, with a bicycle path and river nearby
  • Covered terrace and reading corner; two kilometres from village shops
Getting away to the Jura Mountains? For a friendly and peaceful stay, pack yourself off to Glamping Montholier. This small family site is spread across a 9,000-square-metre wooded area around the owners’ house, with a small river called La Grozonne at the bottom of the garden and a small forest in partial shade. This place is suited to slow mornings unwinding with a page-turner at the cosy reading corner or taking a slow, self-made breakfast at the covered terrace. When you’re ready to pick up the pace, there’s a cycle path nearby, and tourist attractions, rivers and waterfalls are all within a short drive of the site. Poligny, surrounded by vineyards and handily placed on the 336-mile GR59 hiking path, is a 10-minute drive away, and Grottes des Moidons is half an hour’s drive away. For your baked goods and tasty lunch meats, stroll 25 minutes (or drive two minutes) to the local village, Aumont, where there is a bakery, a butcher's and a restaurant. There are plenty of other shops in Poligny and Lons-le-Saunier (25 minutes’ drive), should you need something a little more specific. Well-maintained amenities are kindly provided at Glamping Montholier, including an amenities block with a hot shower, solar-powered shower, composting toilet, washing-up area and rubbish and recycling points. The site is fenced and the gate is closed every evening at 10pm, so it's all nicely secure, safe and peaceful.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Local attractions

Plan a day out in Poligny (10 minutes’ drive) if you’re keen to try the region’s popular cheese, aged in the town cellars, or sip on some wine made by the local producers. The town has access to the GR59, a nice selling point for hikers, and, if that doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty of restaurants where you shouldn't find it hard to track down a tasty meal and/or a good view. Lons-le-Saunier (25 minutes) is famed for its brine springs used since Neolithic times and its 19th-century thermal baths. With the river Vallière running through the centre of town, perhaps you'll want to make time for a pretty riverside picnic at Parc des Bains. It also has a vintage car museum. Grottes des Moidons (half an hour) is a little different from the scenic towns above. Guided tours will take you through the grand underground caves to spy stalagmites, stalactites and bats. Finally, Dole (35 minutes) is a nice way to round off your trip to the Jura Mountains, with its stunning basilica, museum of fine arts and small museum (Musée Pasteur) dedicated to microbiologist Louis Pasteur. A theatre, water park and a small park with boars and Japanese deer are also on hand.
