There's so much to celebrate at this Champagne-Ardennes site you may not know where to begin. Probably the beach for most sorts of holidaymaker, but then there's also a splendid forest setting, a huge lake for fishing, a water playground and a busy entertainment programme – among quite a bit more.
Camping Le Lac d'Orient is a waterside site, with a long length of golden sand edging the huge Orient lake: motorboats, jetskis and waterskiing are all a firm no-no here, making for calm and safe waters for swimming, sailing, canoeing and fishing. More water – and quite a lot of it – awaits too at the site's indoor pool and fab waterpark with big waterslides, and at the shallow water playground with slides and toys for the kids.
Out of the water, an activity and entertainment programme running during July and August includes sports such as volleyball and pétanque, as well as occasional shows, concerts and dances in the evenings. There's a kids' club too, with crafts and other junior activities; a bouncy castle, and a big play area with jeep and slides: it's pretty easy to see why the site team calls this place a 'paradise for children'…
And you might not even have told them about the site's location yet. Camping Le Lac d'Orient's Aube department setting 15 minutes' walk from the town of Mesnil-Saint-Père is half an hour's drive from the famed theme park of Nigloland, one of the most visited parks in France after Disneyland Paris and Parc Astérix.

The site is surrounded by the spectacular Orient Forest Regional Natural Park, a vast wooded landscape made up of the Orient forest and the region's three main lakes, Orient, Temple and Amance.
Take a woodland water or bike ride to see what nature you can spot among the trees and around the water, or clap on your arty hat/ beret to find a place to paint; this region inspired the artist Renoir, who had his summer home to the south of the forest at Essoyes.
The fab theme park of Nigloland is less than 30 minutes' drive away, at Dolancourt. Once the kids have been bribed with a day there, bundle the family into the car and make for the smashing medieval town of Troyes, the ancient settlement that was the birthplace of the Order of the Knights Templar in 1129.
