It's free, quick and easy!
- Well placed for the Emerald Coast 800 metres from Quatre Vaux beach
- Half-hour drive from Dinard and ferry port at St-Malo
- Play area, multisports court, ping pong and summer bread service
‘Certainly lived up to its name tranquille’ enthuses one previous guest – that’s quiet, for those not au fait with the local lingo, and excellent news for folks seeking a serene spot within striking distance of St-Malo; the ferry port is half an hour away.
Life is peaceful indeed at Camping Le Clos Tranquille, a Brittany site surrounded by woods and wildflowers and a 10-minute toddle from Quatre Vaux beach. Markets, shops and bistros are a 20-minute stroll away in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, although if you’re here in summer you can order bread and croissants to be brought over to the site of a morning (thumbs up to a fresh and fuss-free petit dejeuner, non?)
In keeping with the site’s calm vibe, there’s a selection of low-key leisure activity to be had on site – perhaps a gentle game of pétanque, table tennis or shuffleboard, or getting to grips with locals’ fave palet (not a million miles from traditional pétanque). A playground and multisports pitch are on hand for nippers who need something a little more energetic.
Barbecues, a small grocery shop, a launderette and wifi at reception are among the amenities making life easy here; those who’ve visited before also recommend nipping down to the local mussel-harvesting beach for tiptop fresh seafood.

Local attractions
Being so close to the Emerald Coast it’s likely you’ll be wanting to spend a fair chunk of time on the beach or taking in the cracking coastal views. Quatre Vaux beach, a 10-minute stroll away, is your closest, but you may also like to take the 10-minute drive to Saint-Cast-le-Guildo for sailing lessons and other watersports (plus another fab beach) or Pen Guen for a scenic round of golf (and, yes, another fab beach).
Seaside strollers can take their walks on more than 30 kilometres of the GR34 coastal path; a couple of stables are within a 10-minute drive for the horse riders, as is an adventure park for those who’d like to see the scenery from on high.
Looking a little further away, it’s worth making day trips to the Belle Époque villas in Dinard, 25 minutes away, and the UNESCO treasure Mont Saint-Michel. Folks who like a seafood feast may like to head to oyster hub Cancale (45 minutes); and perhaps a flagon of local cider from around Pleudihen-sur-Rance (35 minutes) would be a good way to toast an evening back at base?
