Grass pitches

  • Spacious and peaceful pitches on the banks of the Yonne river
  • On the edge of Morvan Regional Natural Park for hikes and cycling
  • Restaurant on site with terrace; river access for fishing and paddling
If you’re looking for a gorgeously green spot for your Burgundy break, take a look at Hotel Camping sur Yonne, a small rural site a couple of kilometres from the little village of Epiry. As the name suggests, this site is right on the banks of the Yonne river, with access to the water nearby for paddling, fishing or launching kayaks and canoes. It’s also just on the western edge of the Morvan Regional Natural Park, so you’ll be close to lots of excellent places for hikes, bike rides and other outdoor activities. Local landmarks include the Échelle de Sardy on the Canal du Nivernais, and the huge Aqueduct of Montreuillon – both great places to admire some fascinating feats of engineering. Back on site, it’s all about the natural setting – the 120 m² pitches are surrounded by trees to provide a bit of shelter and shade, and each one has an electric connection. The pitches are unpaved and slightly sloping, so although many kinds of units are accepted they’re not suitable for larger, heavier vehicles. Shared facilities include a drinking water connection, a washing-up area and clean bathrooms with toilets and showers (although please note the site is not connected to mains sewerage so there’s no scope for grey water or toilet emptying). As this site is connected to a hotel, guests are also welcome to book tables at the restaurant for drinks, snacks and meals from the daily changing menu. You can also order bread to be delivered from the local bakery for your breakfasts and picnics (daily except Wednesdays).

Local attractions

The woodlands, pastures, farmland and lakes of the Morvan Regional Natural Park make it a fine place to explore on foot or by bike. There are all sorts of trails around, from short strolls to epic hikes – ask on site for some local tips. If you like to be out on the water, you can hire canoes and kayaks close by for river paddling (five minutes’ drive) or head to Étang de Baye (15 minutes) for paddleboarding, canoeing, windsurfing and swimming. Lac de Pannecière (20 minutes) is another popular place for walks and watersports, and there’s whitewater rafting for intrepid types near Lac de Chaumeçon (half an hour). For less active days out, visit the Échelle de Sardy (10 minutes) to see the 16 locks on the Canal du Nivernais, or take a wander around and along the Aqueduct of Montreuillon (five minutes), rising 33 metres above the River Yonne.
