Along the Adour river is an aptly named place with an ace array of activities: Camping Paradis Les Rives de l'Adour, just by the water on the edge of Saint-Sever in France’s Landes department. Sporty types will be in their element here thanks to all the diversions designed to keep them busy – there’s an outdoor pool to plunge into and plenty of space on the multisports courts for games of football and volleyball. Miniature golf and table tennis are on hand for the whole gang to get involved in friendly (with any luck…) matches. If les enfants have any energy left, the playground and inflatables should take care of that. During high season, kids’ entertainment and themed evenings are organised as well to take the effort out of sorting activities, and plenty of food and drink places are on both sides of the river for combining waterside wanders with stop-offs for refreshments. For eats at other times, pick up supplies from the nearby supermarkets and rustle up home-cooked meals in the barbecue area. Top off the indulging with a tipple at the Micromégas Microbrasserie brewery (tours and tastings available), a 10-minute walk away. For freshening up when back on base, there are toilets, showers, a launderette and a washing-up area at this dog-friendly site.

Local attractions

Set off on foot for the stately Benedictine-style Saint-Sever Abbey in town, a 20-minute walk away, or drive to the Musée des Jacobins (five minutes) for cultural kicks at a museum set in a former Jacobin abbey. If the kids are with you, skip such seriousness and make tracks for the Animal Park Nahuques (20 minutes’ drive) to coo over the pygmy goats, llamas, wallabies and emus, or adventure with the alpacas and deer at Le Moulin de Poyaller park, rounding it all off with a go on the rowing boats (25 minutes). Another outdoor spot to while away the day is Jean Rameau Park (25 minutes), a public space with more than 80 species of trees and a variety of sculptures, along with Japanese and hydrangea gardens. A playground’s here for the kids as well but if the rain’s coming, lope over to Laser Quest (also 25 minutes) instead. Last but ever so certainly not least, Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park (half an hour) is a wilder place for a wander – this reserve is made up of stunning pine forests, wetlands and coastline studded with paths.

Liked Nos gustó la parcela, llana, grande y con sombra. La atención del personal también es buena, sobre todo del hombre que nos llevó por todas las parcelas buscando la que mejor se adaptará a nuestras necesidades, un 10 para el.

Disliked No nos gustó lo pequeño que es, la poca iluminación nocturna y sobre todo lo que menos nos gustó fue el lamentable estado de los baños, duchas y lavaderos, son viejísimos y lo peor es que están todos llenos de telarañas y arañas por los techos con lo cual da una sensación de muy poca sanidad.
