When you’re searching for a Gironde site that has lots to make life easy and fun for all the family – and yes, dogs are included in that – it’s probably time to head for Camping Bel Air Village le Lac de Cazaux. This family-friendly lakeside spot at La Teste-de-Buch has outdoor activities aplenty, an essentials shop and breakfast pastry deliveries (high season only) to please the adults, and shaded woodland walks for your pooches too.
Outdoor activities on site include mood-enhancing yoga sessions, ping-pong tables and a play area with a large sand pit. Down by Lake Cazaux, you can stroll around the shoreline, or hire gear from the watersports centre and have a go at canoeing, paddleboarding and kayaking. Catch-and-return angling is also allowed.
Spacious, partially shaded pitches are tucked under trees, and all have electric hook-ups. The list of practical facilities includes a launderette, washing-up sinks and a communal shower block. If you’re in charge of catering, there are communal barbecues, and if you want a night off from cooking, there’s a pizzeria at the entrance to the site.

Local attractions
Sporty families will likely spend time down at Lake Cazaux, but if you have a yen for a day at the seaside, Plage de la Corniche is only 20 minutes’ drive away. A bit further south is a curious landmark – the ever-shifting Dune du Pilat (25 minutes’ drive), which towers high above the Atlantic coastline. It’s so high that daredevils can go paragliding off its summit when the wind conditions are right.
The Bassin d’Arcachon is another stunning spot. Take the binoculars to watch flocks of waders in the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich (both 25 minutes), follow the Sentier du Littoral coast path between Lanton and Audenge (an hour) or taste the local speciality oysters in waterside seafood restaurants.
If the kids are demanding a bit more action, let them loose on the floating obstacle course at Aquapark Biscarrosse (35 minutes) or the treetop ropes at Bisc’Aventure (40 minutes). There are also waterslides and a lazy river to suit all the family at Aqualand Bassin d’Arcachon (45 minutes).
