Tucked into Gironde countryside on the outskirts of Hourtin, close to Atlantic Ocean beaches and Hourtin Lake, Camping l’Orée du Bois is a wonderfully family-friendly spot with an impressive list of options for your enjoyment. First off is the waterpark, comprising a heated indoor pool, a kids’ paddling pool and outdoor waterslides – fun for all the family. Play areas take care of younger guests, and active types can also get involved in pétanque tournaments or outdoor team games at the multisports ground. The site also has organised entertainment throughout the season: a kids’ club, activities aimed at teens, and themed evenings like karaoke and live music for all the family. Camping l’Orée du Bois is surrounded by pine forest criss-crossed with hiking and cycling trails – also handy for exercising any canine companions. The reliable waves hitting sandy Atlantic beaches (20 minutes’ drive) are popular for high-octane watesports, while the calm waters of Hourtin Lake (10 minutes) lend themselves to gentler family adventures. Make Hourtin Lake (10 minutes’ drive) your first stop, where active family members can opt for sailing, paddleboarding and kayaking expeditions, while others choose to stroll around the shoreline or flop on sandy Plage du Port. Heading for the Atlantic Ocean coast, Hourtin and Carcans beaches (both 20 minutes) are known windsurfing spots where you can hire gear and take to the waves. Vendays-Montalivet (25 minutes) is a lively coastal resort surrounded by marshy waterways; if you’d like to stretch your legs among this wetland scenery, try the hiking trails in the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park. Wildlife lovers can head for Cousseau Pond Nature Reserve (both half an hour), armed with binoculars to watch out for elusive otters. There are several Médoc vineyards also within half an hour by car, where you can tour the vines, taste the wares and maybe buy a bottle or two. If you’d like to know more about local vintages, head for the soaring steel Cité du Vin in Bordeaux (about an hour) for immersive exhibits on viniculture and some more wine sampling.

Powered earth campsite

Liked Camping très intéressant, pour les grands et les petit, en famille ou non.
Organisation, plan, espace des emplacements, propreté très bien

Disliked Le volume sonore des animations le soir trop fort (jusqu'à 23h15) pour ceux qui se reposent.
Manque un marquage lumineux des différents chemin surtout si l'on doit se rendre aux sanitaires la nuit.
