It's free, quick and easy!
- Southern Périgord site on the banks of the Dordogne
- Between Sarlat and Bergerac, under a kilometre from Trémolat
- Pools, fishing, play area, library, restaurant, bar and snack bar
Plans for your Périgord break? Perhaps riverside walks, bike rides and watersports? Or maybe filling up on fine local cuisine such as truffles, duck confit and foie gras? (Ideally a bit of both activities, one might suggest… they create a most satisfactory combo.)
Within easy reach of all of the above is Camping de Trémolat, between Sarlat and Bergerac in the southern Périgord. This family-friendly site is right on the banks of the Dordogne river for fishing, waterside walks and watersports including canoe trips, kayaking, windsurfing and waterskiing – have a chat with the team on site for details of how to sort your watery activity of choice.
For that foodie foraging, trot up to the town of Trémolat, around a 10-minute walk away, for market stalls, shops and restaurants serving up top-notch local dishes. If les enfants don’t look too enamoured by the taste of truffles, there’s more familiar grub on the menu at the site’s summer snack bar (including takeaway pizzas) and a restaurant, bar and grocery shop are open from the beginning of April.
In between all the eats, take dips in the outdoor pool, challenge pals to games of tennis, pétanque or basketball or select some reading matter from the library. A play area, games room and table football are also on hand to keep the nippers entertained.

Local attractions
Well, you’ll want to start with the Dordogne itself, surely… the friendly team at reception can help sort days of canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding and wakeboarding (and there’s plenty of space on site to chill out with a waterside picnic post-activity).
Take explores a little further afield by heading out to historic sites at Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil (half an hour’s drive), a UNESCO-listed ancient village with a splendid stash of prehistoric bits and bobs, or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (40 minutes) to wander around the handsome château.
Bergerac (45 minutes) makes for a top day out if you’re into your wine-tastings; if you’d rather see caves than cellars there are several options at Gouffre de Proumeyssac (20 minutes), Grotte du Grand Roc (half an hour) and Grotte de Rouffignac (35 minutes), where you can ride an electric train to see ancient murals of mammoths.
