Fishing, cycling and maybe a spot of forest bathing? At a site that’s friendly by name and friendly by nature? Sounds like a top proposition. And that’s what awaits at Friendly Camping and Lodges, a family-oriented site on the banks of the River Dronne in the Dordogne. Owner Lisa and her trusty hound Louna welcome you with a smile (and a wagging tail) at this peaceful spot on the outskirts of Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière. The village is a 10-minute walk away – which in the morning ought to be enough to whet your appetite for buttery croissants and crusty baguettes from the local bakery. You can then pick up anything you need for the barbecue (provided on site) before heading back to base camp and chilling in the shade of the tall trees while the kids make new friends in the play area. And if a 10-minute walk sounds like too much effort, there’s no need to reach for the car keys; instead, head to the on-site convenience store, which sells organic local produce. Amenities include a shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and recycling points. Families with dogs are welcome, and families with very young children can borrow a high chair and changing table.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked I had a fantastic stay at Friendly Camping and Lodges!

A peaceful campsite with spacious pitches next to the river with a really friendly atmosphere, excellent local and healthy food and drinks, clean communal areas with all the essentials (I appreciated the toilet paper and soap provided), a safe shed to store your bicycle, close to cycle paths and within walking distance of the town center (well worth a visit).

Lisa the owner was very welcoming and accommodating. I'll definitely come back and highly recommend it!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Walking distance to a small town. Car boot sale on Sunday with food and music.
The river runs alongside the site, which our dog loved. The lady who greeted us was very lovely. The campsite is quiet and peaceful.

Disliked It was the end of season so very quiet. I couldn’t find the chemical disposal point and no obvious grey waste disposal either.
The shower head was hanging so difficult to enjoy a hot shower, however they were kept clean.

Local attractions

The site is on the southern fringes of the Périgord-Limousin Natural Regional Park, with its gentle forested hills and medieval villages. You can explore the area by car, of course, but also on two wheels via La Flow Vélo bike path (five minutes by bike). Gorgeous and historic Périgueux (45 minutes’ drive) sits on the river Isle and will demand at least a day of your time. Start at the Cathedrale Saint-Front, a riot of Romanesque and Byzantine architecture with domes, spires and pinnacles, visit the excellent archaeology museum and progress on to the Vesunna Gallo-Roman Museum, where the remains of an ancient Roman villa sit under glass. There’s more culture to be had at stately Renaissance-era Château de Puyguilhem (15 minutes). However, if you have kids with you, perhaps it’s time for swimming and watersports off the lakeside beach at Grand Étang de Saint Saud (15 minutes), or a gentle yomp up to the waterfalls at Saut du Chalard (10 minutes) for a refreshing dip in the Dronne.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.

Firearms are not permitted.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
