  • Family-friendly site on the banks of the Dordogne in Cazoulès
  • A 25-minute drive from Sarlat-La-Caneda; canoeing 10 minutes away
  • River beach, pétanque, play area and snack bar
Of the many attractions in the Dordogne area, surely the most famed of all is the mighty river itself – and you’ll get plenty of chances to admire it from Aquitaine site Camping Ushuaïa Villages Les Belles Rives, right at the very water’s edge in the little village of Cazoulès. There’s plenty of space to chill out around this spacious site, and also a generous number of trees should you require a bit of shade in which to do so. Top spot, though, is probably the site’s own pebble beach, which is a prime position for paddling, swims and fishing in the river. If river swims aren’t your thing, there’s also an open-air pool (open during high season only) to take your dips in; other options for leisure time include games of pétanque, time with the kids at the play area and family-friendly entertainment in the evenings. Food can be sorted at the snack bar or by picking up supplies 10 minutes’ drive away in Souillac. As well as being a top spot in its own right, this is also a handy location for various Dordogne days out including canoe outings, château visits and cave tours.

Local attractions

As tempting as it may be simply to gaze out over the river for days on end, it’s worth hauling yourselves up for an outing or few, such are the excellent attractions around this part of the world. If you’d like to keep things properly rural, there’s plenty of scope nearby for hikes, bike rides and canoe outings in scenic surrounds (canoe hire can be sorted 10 minutes’ drive away). Urban wanders tend to be equally easy on the eye around here too, especially if you set off for Sarlat-La-Caneda (25 minutes’ drive) – a place packed with listed buildings from medieval days. Pretty riverside villages like Domme (35 minutes) and clifftop ones like Rocamadour (45 minutes) are very much worthy of outings too. It would, of course, be wrong to visit the Dordogne without dropping into at least one of its castles – take your pick from the frescoed chapel of Château de Beynac, the exhibits of weaponry at Castelnaud-La-Chapelle and the showbiz history of Milandes (or ideally, visit all three – they’re all fab and pretty close together, 40 minutes’ drive away). Below surface is worth an explore too: the caves at Cougnac (25 minutes) and Lascaux (45 minutes) are treasure troves of prehistoric paintings. Too much old stuff for the young ones? Steer them over to Quercyland amusement park (10 minutes) or Monkey Forest animal park (40 minutes).

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Stunning location with amazing things to see and do in the region. We only stayed one night but could happily have stayed longer.
We arrived in September when the park was quiet. It would have been a different proposition in high Summer.
To be next to the beautiful Dordogne river in early Autumn was the icing on the cake

Disliked: Showers were a tad tepid

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: large river side pitch. Clean toilet and showers. Good size pool that was in shade at end of day.

Disliked: Limited shade on some pitches, but reception were more than happy to let us move. Could do with a general tidy up and the bin area was overflowing and very smelly

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Location and pitch - Right by the river in one of the most beautiful parts of France.
Friendly and helpful staff.
The relaxed approach to everything.
The evening entertainment was to a very high standard - especially the Friday night singers who were superb.

Disliked: The route out through the village of Cazoules - There is a 2-300m section of narrow road between buildings. We surmise that departing caravans and motorhomes are banned from this section to avoid meeting an incoming large vehicle in the middle of this section. However there's no signposting of a suitable alternative route which left us to work out how we could reach the main road. Clear signage would have been a great help!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Friendly staff. Snack and drinks bar on site. Beautiful position on Dordogne river. Canoeing available on site with 5€ discount for site users. Transferred upstream in minibus for a leisurely paddle downstream for 4 hours of beautiful scenery for €30. Two toilet and shower blocks one more modern than other but both very clean. Fantastic cycle track voie verte et veloroute starts in local village of Cazoules and we cycled on beautiful cycle paths to Sarlat Le Caneda a beautiful medieval town with lots of really nice shops and architecture. Took about 1hr45 each way. Baguette dispensing machine in town was a novelty for us Brits.

Disliked: Could do with a tidy up.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Riverside pitch
Friendly and welcoming owners

Disliked: Toilet block was not clean and had no lights in it for the first couple of nights - then when lights later were installed it was a bug party!

Grass was not cut which made for a very soggy walk to toilet block and made the site feel very derelict and a bit eerie.

We were here just as the site had opened - I'm sure in peak season when the site is fully staffed it's better - however there are very few toilets for the 100 pitches they have.

I stayed at 3 other sites during my trip in april and this was the most expensive but has the worst facilities.

The owners seemed super lovely and I wish them well - however they should maybe not open to tourers until they actually ready to open in future?
